At about 10:35 pm on 7/23/22, Dylan Matthew took the stage for his first ever sold-out, headlining tour at the Avalon Hollywood. The anticipation for his inaugural performance was palpable, as concert-goers looked intently at the stage.

Shortly before Matthew entered from stage left, the audience was presented with a prerecorded video featuring the up-and-coming star. With a sunlit face and green-painted fingernails, Matthew expressed his gratitude to the fans for completely selling out his first show within a 24-hour period. He remarked: “ because of [the show being completely sold out], we have been moved from Bardot, the small room, into the main Avalon room. So now, we are playing the full-scale Avalon main stage. It’s gonna be amazing! I am so excited!” The screams on account of his mere presence coalesced as if to coax him out of hiding.

The lights lower and a blue hue is cast across the room, signaling that the show has truly begun. Matthew casually walks out onto the stage amidst the outpouring of screams from the crowd and instantly starts singing. Within seconds, the crowd is transfixed by his ever-so-dreamy and smooth vocals.

He dawns a cropped pink, a plaid blazer that is quite Clueless-esque (and iconic) with his bare chest and butterfly tattoo on full display. He balances the rest of his ensemble with the classic black jean and converse combo, a look that is complemented magnificently by his black electric guitar.

With songs like “Kissing Other Boys'' and “Drive You Crazy,” unrequited love has never sounded so sweet. All attendees sang in unison, as though they were recalling their own bouts of lost love. Though the subject matter was undoubtedly emotional, Matthew’s stellar stage presence made for an unforgettable night. It was one of healing, tender and sweet, yet absolutely remarkable.

His appreciation for the company shared that night was at the forefront throughout his set. He cheekily revealed at one point, “it’s too early to get emotional, but I’m really really f**king happy you guys are here right now.”

Dylan Matthew has surely set a high bar for himself with his first-ever headlining show, although, it sure didn’t seem like it (we’re onto you Dylan). There is no doubt that Dylan Matthew is destined to reach even greater heights and make waves within the industry.
