Aica

Aica

Singer/Songwriter Aica has been singing for as long as she can remember. Now, with two singles out, both of which were released this year, the artist proves that practice makes perfect. Using a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and pop beats as a backdrop, Aica beautifully laces her music with soulful vocals. And, the Toronto native is far from slowing down. She’s established her sound, garnered over 55k streams on Spotify, and made her way onto two Spotify-curated playlists (Just Vibing and Fresh Finds: The Wave), all before even having her EP out. We recently spoke with Aica about how she started making music, difficulties she encounters while song writing and how she remedies them, and more!

How did you start making music?

When I was younger, at recess time, I remember being in my own world and just belt out singing, the lyrics didn’t make sense, there weren’t any rhymes, I just saaang. I then started writing songs but becoming a singer was a dream that seemed so far from my reach. As I got older, I wanted to take being an artist seriously and was lucky to have found a producer who believed in me and helped my style of music come to life.

How do you spend your free time?

In my free time, I either enjoy alone time, having a day full of self-care and catching up on my favourite shows or spending time with the people I love.

What do you think is the hardest part about creating a song?

The hardest part about creating a song is definitely using the message you want to convey in a creative manner.

How do you overcome writer’s block?

I find that when I have any sort of writer’s block, it’s because I’m forcing myself to write lyrics that I want to be super catchy and it never works out..all of my songs’ lyrics that have been and will be released all come naturally and that’s how I know I wrote a song that came from my heart.

What was your inspiration behind your song "Goodluck"?

As young as I am, I’m old enough to not care about what other people think of me. Although the lyrics portray a romantic relationship plot, “Goodluck” was inspired by people in general who wish you the best until you’re actually successful. I always “say no shade, no hate, just love...but maybe just a little shade!”

If you could collaborate with any person, who would it be?

I would love to work with Drake, his style in music has range. He can go from making your go-to break up song to your top summer hit. I always say that I don’t fit into one genre either and I have my own flavour so that is why Drake would be a dream collaboration.

What are you planning for the future?

My first EP is in progress. My listeners will really get a feel for my rnb vibes and I’m excited for everyone to hear!
