Caine Casket
New Jersey native Caine Casket is a multifaceted player in the music industry: Besides being a recording artist, Casket produces his own music, illustrates and animates any and all of his graphics, and even directs his own music videos. Combining his eclectic music taste with a background in fine arts and poetry, the up and coming artist creates a unique sound, one he refers to as “avant garde hip hop [meeting] progressive soul.” His music career began with his 2017 single “StarDust,” but he’s since released 2 more singles, as well as a debut album, 9 Nights, which grossed practically 750k Spotify streams. When Casket’s not furthering his own music career, he helps others, running his own creative agency called the 90º Collective. We recently spoke with Caine about his aspirations, future projects, and more!
How did you get started making music?
Music has always existed in my life. My dad is a DJ but before that, he sang in a few different gospel choirs. So I started off singing in the church too, like most black folk. I also wrote a lot of poetry when I was younger, so I started rapping when I realized I could turn my poems in music.
There is clearly so much emotion put into your songs. What message do you want fans to get from your music?
Mental health is important to me. I think I try my best to weave my physique into the music so that my fans can feel more comfortable with their mental states, good or bad. I'd like for my fans to be more kind & patient with themselves. The music is only a guide in some ways.
Which is your favorite track off 9 Nights and why.
I don't know if I have a favorite track on 9 Nights. When I was working on it, I saw it as a story or one long song capturing a series of moments. I'd say because that it's hard to decide, each song lends something to the full story. I've been listening to “Nine” a lot lately, though.
Who would be your dream collab?
Dream collab would have to be Prince and Andre 3000.
What do you like doing when you’re not in the studio?
When I'm not in the studio or recording, I'm still trying to create. I'm usually researching ideas, animating, designing, or as of recently, learning the guitar.
It’s safe to say you’re talented. But, what’s another musical talent you wish you had?
I've always wanted to master the saxophone. My two favorite instruments are Sax & the guitar.
Are there any future projects that fans can get excited about?
Currently, I'm working on a 5 to 6 track EP called The Nature of War. It's in the final stages, so it's going to be out soon.
