DACEY
DACEY is a band made for the new age. Composed of Dacey (lead singer), Justin Tecson (guitar, keys), Waterfall Eyes (guitar), Joshfrompomo (bass), and Marco Marin (drums), their style has caught on since they first started releasing music in 2019. It started with their debut Spotify single “Sidewalks”, which is everything you want in a Neo-Soul hit. Their newest release, “Broccoli’s Keeper”, has gained over 148K streams since it was released this June. DACEY’s style combines r&b, indie, jazz, and everything in between. They’ve been featured on Spotify’s Outliers playlist and are currently on the cover of Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Indie playlist, too. The group’s recent success appears to be more than just a flash in the pan. We recently spoke with Dacey about how the group spends their time together, future projects, and more!
How did you start making music?
I started writing at the age of 10, in which those songs will never see the light of day lol. I became more serious about it during high school, and basically wrote a lot to ‘type-beats’. I’d pick up my guitar and bass every now and then, and start writing out chord progressions to change up my style in writing sometimes. I began producing right when I first got my MacBook. I started on GarageBand and wrote almost all of my songs using it. I then switched DAW’s and moved on to Ableton as I went to study at a recording school.
What do you consider your biggest career accomplishment thus far?
As a kid, I’ve always wanted to be in a band. In high school, It was pretty hard looking for people who were committed to being in one. Now that I’ve finally met my friends (bandmates) who are always hard working and determined, I’m very grateful for being a part of their lives and just being able to make music together.
How does the group unwind after a long day of work?
After a long day of practicing and recording, we all like to end our day off with ramen at our favorite ramen place called Menya.
What’s a staple of a DACEY song?
Layers and layers of harmonies, beatlesque. I like my sh*t lush! Lots of “oooh’s” and “aaah’s” stacked until a full a chord. My songs are usually about heartbreak. All of that, and you get a “Dacey song.’”
What's the best part about being a group?
We’re all very different in our own way. Some of us have different styles and tastes from each other. So being able to collaborate and learn from one another really helps us grow into being better musicians, and people in general.
Who’s your partner in a dream collab?
Tyler, the Creator, I’ve been a die hard fan since I can remember. I saw him at least 3 times live, and will see him again! I’m in love with his art and his creative work process.
Any future projects for fans to get excited about?
We are currently working on our album that is soon to be released, and we also have a music video coming out for our latest single “Broccoli’s Keeper.”
