Powerful and full of promise, Dirtsa encapsulates a sound akin to the great songwriters of today. The artist’s R&B/Hip-Hop-centric tracks are packed with truthful lyricism, often depicting her struggles, aspirations, and triumphs. A newcomer to the music scene, the 23-year-old has only released music for a year – A surprising fact considering the versatility of the artist. She’s a musical poet, singing and rapping her way through tracks like “Meghan Markle” and her latest release, “Give It Right Back.” We spoke to the Toulouse, France native as she embarks on her first-ever tour! Scroll down to read our full conversation with the artist.

Dirtsa! Thanks so much for speaking with us – Congrats on the new single, it’s stellar! How are you feeling now that it’s out?

Thanks a lot for having me! I never had “stellar” as a compliment before, thank you very much :) I feel really good, haha. I hope you do too. I spent quite the time working on this piece with some amazing people and now it’s out for everyone to hear and it feels good. Great even!

Can you walk us through the inspiration for the track?

Regarding the inspiration for this track, it’s simply about having my heart broken haha. But those things happen. And for the best when you really look at it. You’re allowed to lose yourself in the memories, just make sure you know the back because the goal is to keep on moving.

Was there anything different in terms of your musical process this time around?

No, not really. I allowed myself to feel vulnerable and this came to life.

You’re in the middle of your first tour! How does it feel being out on the road?

Haha yes! Crazy innit?! It feels really really good. Meeting people after what the world has been through. I knew everyone would be ready to get back out and vibe on good music but when it's yours it’s different. It’s overwhelming. I catch myself refraining from crying here and there but it’s all love and I'm really enjoying these moments and memories because it’s the first tour for me! All of this is new and I’m very grateful for it!

Which song have you most enjoyed performing live?

Lately, it’s been “Give It Right Back”, to be honest. Since it's its release week, I've worked on a live adaptation of it with my musicians for that special occasion. I wish you could hear it! Get those passports ready and pull up!

You’re originally from Cameroon, living in France, and releasing music in English. How does that work?

Cameroun actually has some history with both English and French so it’s nothing much really. Just a way to call for union in my own way.

Which Dirtsa lyric best describes your life right now?

“Know if I say it, imma do it. Sic Parvis Magna till the end.”

You emphasize the storytelling aspect of your music – what is the one thing you want fans to take from your songs?

Modestly, but I’d like them to know that no matter the character and their situation, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. What matters is who you are at heart. The heart knows. Through the things I depict, I'm just trying to encourage everyone coming across my music to embrace their truth and accept and love themselves.

Who would you consider your biggest musical inspirations at the moment?

Currently, I vibe heavy with anything Billie Holiday. But I'm also at a time where I listen to quite a lot of classical tunes!  Outside studio time, I enjoy cooking, eating, engaging with never-ending chess games with my sister, and painting a lot.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

‘Keep your heart light and at peace. Always.’

When Dirtsa makes it to LA, ______________.

…ain’t no jet lag, ain’t no delay!
