EFÉ
Dublin, Ireland’s EFÉ is one of a kind. After starting her music career under the name “Anita”, the artist returned to the music scene with her new stage name in 2020. EFÉ’s songs are distinctively hers; Dreamy, reverbed vocals paired with a mixture of bedroom pop, R&B, and lofi influences produce a beautifully blended sound. This can be heard in two of her recent releases, “Seven” and “Table For Two”. Both tracks have garnered significant attention across multiple streaming platforms, totaling nearly 200k Spotify streams and earning spots on the platform’s curated playlists. Less than two years into her music career, EFÉ has grown a significant fanbase and currently boasts a following of over 70k monthly listeners. We recently spoke to the artist about her musical influences, plans for the future, and more!
How did you get started making music?
It all started off with me making funny rap songs over “type beats” and then slowly transitioning into making “real music”. This started last year, releasing music on SoundCloud, to eventually this year releasing music on Spotify and other streaming platforms!!
What made 2020 the year to expand your platform to Spotify and other streaming apps?
I was always told to release my song “Seven” to Spotify but never really listened, it just seemed so scary and official. I just finally listened and believed in myself a little, enough to finally put it out there and really happy I did.
How has the pandemic affected your ability to song-write?
The pandemic definitely came with times of procrastination and other times of high amounts of motivation and creativity, there was no inbetween.
Describe a real-life situation that prompted the creation of a song.
My song “Girl 4 U”!! Although it was a freestyle, I believe it was honestly so true and raw to my feelings of that time. It was during a time I experienced a reciprocated type of love, and shown affection which was honestly unheard of for me! I was confused, innocent to the feeling of love but also open to making that connection.
Who are you teaming up with for a dream collaboration and why?
Not sure how to answer this, but shiiiii I’m teaming up with the universe!!
Which artists do you give credit to for shaping your sound?
Artists like Mort Garson, Zack Villere and Homeshake have influenced my sound in many ways and sometimes I do think you can hear their influence in ways.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Predict the future…just in case another outbreak occurs again and I’d just let everyone know and boom never experiencing another lockdown for the rest of my life.
What can we catch you doing on your day off?
Probably making stupid rap songs over a Lil Pump type beat.
Describe your music in just three words.
Bubbly, cool, fresh!
What has been your proudest accomplishment over the past couple of years releasing music?
Being added to some notable playlists has been crazy, but also I’d say someone from America DMing me, saying that if I ever toured that they’d come to my show ! :’)
What's next for EFÉ?
MY EP! Which is coming out on the 15th of October! Called What Should We Do This Summer and then more music and music videos! Loads more music, maybe a tour? Maybe a collaboration with SZA? ( who knows?! Just speaking it all into existence )
