Földes
Hailing from Sweden, DJ and producer Földes has made quite a name for himself over the last five years. Ever since dropping his first single “Sky” in 2015, he’s amassed 51 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Songs such as “More To Love” and “Close to Me” have become extremely popular, with hundreds of thousands of streams across the world. He’s toured around the globe, even sharing the stage with artists such as David Guetta and Nicky Romero. Now, he’s looking to cement his legacy even further in the industry. The artist released his latest single, “Further Down The Road”, in early June. We recently spoke with Földes about his origins as a musician, his experiences as an international artist, and more!
How did you start making music?
I started DJing in 2007 (when I was 16). My interest and passion for music was growing every day. In regards to production, I started a bit late. In my last year of high school and throughout university, I signed up for some basic courses of music production and music theory. However, the art of the DJ was always a serious passion of mine and my main priority. I purchased DJing books, read on forums, watched videos online, and practiced a lot. After a few years, I felt the need to create my own edits & mashups to improve my DJ sets and make them more original. This allowed me to spend more time in my DAW (Logic Pro)— but It wasn’t until 2013-2014 that I actually started to make music (Or at least what I called music at that time…). At that time, I also started with the piano lessons that I mentioned earlier. In 2016, I took an online music program called “Cosmic Academy” about music production which involved music business and marketing, which increased my development as an artist a lot.
As an international artist, have you had trouble trying to make the move to LA?
To be honest, I’m aware that LA is probably the best spot for musicians. However, I haven’t considered moving there yet. Most of my gigs are in Sweden and for now I’m happy with my studio here and everything else. It only takes me 20 minutes by train to get to the airport in Copenhagen, so traveling in Europe is both cheap and pretty easy for me at the moment (Except from the Corona situation of course…).
What’s the best song for a remix?
Hmm… I can’t pick one, but it’s definitely a song that has a very strong element, one that you can build your remix around. For example, it could be an instrumental hook or a vocal. I also find it better to do a remix that isn’t in the same style or vibe as the original. I try to make it my own and make my remix a great alternative to the original. For example, a club remix of a Pop track that can fit on the dance floor where the original won’t fit.
Who’s the best artist for a collaboration?
Same here! I’m afraid, I can’t pick one artist but it’s great if the collaborative artist has something you don’t have. For example, my latest track with Kim Carell called “Further Down The Road” -- we were really lucky to collaborate with two incredible artists, J Fitz on the vocals and Daniel Cederskär on the saxophone. They definitely took our record to the next level by adding something we couldn’t do.
If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing right now?
There are so many things that fascinate me, especially when it comes to other creative fields like photography, video editing & graphic design. I could dive into those right now but I actually have to tell myself to stop even considering it and focus on the music! However, the human brain really interests me, so I could definitely see myself studying psychology or anything else connected to it.
Favorite non-music activities?
Sports has always been a big part of my life. I was training in Judo for around 16-17 years but for the last couple of years its mostly been training in the gym. It fits me great because I’m able to go there after I’m done in the studio and it stops me from overthinking my own music! I’m also a big fan of books, both physical & audio books as well as podcasts.
Any future projects that fans can look forward to?
Yes! This summer I have an official remix coming out on Glorie Records plus a remix EP of my own track “More To Love”. In addition to that, I also have another saxophone house track that I’m just doing the final tweaking of. My aim is to have it released late summer!
