Halo describes her most recent release, “f l a w l e s s”, as her way of uploading “secret thoughts and feelings to the internet.” It is safe to say that Halo is just getting started and is ready to make her mark on the pop industry. We recently spoke to the artist about her day off activities, new projects, and more!
How did you start making music?
Tricky! I was so young I can't really remember what it was like at that age. I listened intently a lot. I think eventually I was just humming tunes that I didn't know and then realized they were my own and began adding words. It's different now, I set out with intent. But there was always a piano in my parents' living room and that's where it all began. Still my favorite place to write.
It’s your day off: How are you spending it?
With my dog. Strolling around Hollywood. Lunch and dinner outdoors at my favorite restaurants. Songwriting in the evening. Maybe a bath. Probably a bath.
What was the last song you listened to?
“Portions for Foxes” by Rilo Kiley.
Describe your music in just 3 words.
Gritty? Power? Pop? Gritty power pop. That's hard.
It’s collab time: who are you choosing to make a song with?
This question always trips me. It's like Tinder, in a way? Like you can't really know until you meet up and vibe? It's such an intimate thing making music. There's a necessary chemistry to it. And when I say Tinder I don't mean romantically or like a hook up relationship, I just mean it's special. I just mean you can hope you'll match with somebody all you want but you can't guess what'll come out of swiping? Bad analogy maybe.
Which song is your most personal? Can you explain to us its significance?
“f l a w l e s s” ... It was the first song I ever finished. It's also my most vulnerable. I half can't believe I uploaded all those secret thoughts & feelings to the internet. They're truly some of my deepest darkest.
Any future projects for fans to get excited about?
Maybe. Let's hope. Aha. There will be more music, if that counts. I can promise that. The rest will be revealed... to me included.
