Montreal’s kerri impresses with an explosion of r&b and lo-fi inspired beats. The 21-year-old singer, songwriter, and producer exceeds the standards of mainstream indie music. With musical influences ranging from Kanye West to Skrillex, the artist has turned a new leaf in mastering his distinct sound. In recent years, kerri has seen impressive streaming success on Spotify, where he has over 89 thousand monthly listeners. His 2018 album, happy accidents, contains some of his biggest songs to date. “Moody” and “Rose Gold” are just two of the hits that have earned him a quickly growing fanbase. His newest song, “ponder”, comes in the form of a collaboration with experimental artist ache. We recently spoke with kerri about his early musical influences, songwriting process, and more!

How did you start making music?

When I was a kid, my mom had a really good taste in music & I would dig through her CD collection & find like Mariah Carey and Daft Punk and put those on every day. I remember finding old Kanye CDs too & it getting me interested in making beats. I think my interest in production really peaked when I heard Skrillex's first project (lol) and it kinda influenced me to investigate how music was actually made.

If you could see yourself performing any other genre, which would it be?

I think in another life I see myself being a jazz pianist or something.

What do you do when you’re not making music?

Hang out with friends, drink tea & take photos mainly. And sleep.

What’s the perfect occasion to bump some Kerri?

I think my music is a soundtrack for when it's late at night & or when you're driving or you're the last one awake.

What’s the hardest part about producing your own music?

I struggle with perfectionism & overthinking every part of the song like my vocal mixes, lyrics & instrumentals mainly. Maintaining a level head during the process of writing an EP / album is really hard! I have so much respect for artists chasing ambitious projects.

It’s collab time: Who are you choosing to make a song with?

My dream collab has always been Yung Lean, I love him to death & he was super influential to me when I was younger & exploring music on soundcloud for the first time.

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

I've been writing this album on & off for a couple years but I don't know when It'll be ready haha - until then people can expect some EPs & singles for the summer.
