In just three years, Lindsey Lomis has proven herself as a certified pop talent. Growing up in Nashville, the singer/songwriter was exposed to the diverse genres and sounds that flow through “Music City”. She made her Spotify debut in 2017 with “Our Memories”, and simply hasn’t looked back since; the artist currently boasts over 240k monthly listeners on the platform and has earned millions of streams worldwide. Lindsey’s songs are pop music at its finest; take 2018’s “Simple Love” for example, a slow ballad that incorporates Lindsey’s vocals with the song’s great jazzy notes-- the track has over 1.8 million streams and is the artist’s most popular to date. It’s safe to say that 2020 saw even greater success for Lindsey, though. Her latest release, “Slow Motion”, is a collaboration between the musician and Platinum-selling artist JoJo. The two deliver a fantastic product which is filled with beautiful runs and heart-stopping high notes; more so, the song showcases the evolution of both artists. We recently spoke to Lindsey about the new release and more!

First of all congrats on the release of ‘In The Madness’! How does it feel now that the EP is finally out?

Thank you!! It honestly feels surreal that it’s finally out. I’ve been working on these songs for almost 2 years and it’s some of the most vulnerable writing I’ve ever done. I’m excited that people finally get to hear this side of me.

What was it like working with an artist like JoJo on your song “Slow Motion”?

It was INCREDIBLE. JoJo is a true boss. I learned so much in the time I spent working with her. It’s refreshing to see that someone so accomplished can still be so genuine. I’m used to writing for myself, but having someone of her caliber connect with my lyrics (and sing the hell out of them) made me feel like a real, official songwriter!

Let's talk about your start making music. How did you get started on this journey?

I’ve been singing since I could speak, so music has always been a passion of mine. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Nashville, aka Music City, where I got to see a ton of live music of all different genres and connect with professional mentors. Every step led to another and each experience brought me here!

What has changed most about your musical style since your debut in 2017?

For the past couple of years, I’ve had the chance to experiment more than I ever have. I’ve gotten to work with writers and producers of all genres and in doing that I’ve discovered who I am as an artist at this moment. I’ve matured lyrically, sonically, and am blending genres of soul and pop influences to create my own sound. I also feel so lucky to have met a creative partner like my producer, Ryan Daly, who understands me and helps express my vision.

Share a real-life experience that inspired a song.

All of my songs are inspired by personal experiences, but sometimes I like to exaggerate them a bit. One song that’s directly about something I went through is Bones. I realized that someone I thought I cared about was lying to keep me connected to them. Bones is about a moment of empowerment I felt when letting that person go.

Where do you typically draw inspiration from when making your music? Do you have a go-to location for songwriting?

I draw inspiration from everything. My own experiences and the experiences of others. I also like to make scenarios up sometimes based on movies, books, or even just my imagination. My go-to location for songwriting is my music room. All of my instruments are at arms reach and the strings of lights on my wall create a complete comfort zone. I love writing in there at night, which is when most of my inspiration tends to hit.

Do you ever encounter writer's block? If so, how do you overcome it?

Yes! Writer's block is just a part of the process. It can be so frustrating, but whenever I get stuck writing alone, I listen to music that inspires me and write with other people. Talking to other writers often helps pull the ideas out of me.

Who are some of your main musical inspirations?

I look up to an endless amount of artists. Some who have helped to mold my sound are H.E.R., Adele, Allen Stone, Tori Kelly, Amy Winehouse, and so many more.

Describe your music in just three words.

Authentic. Soulful. Relatable.

What can we catch you doing on your day off?

Watching every season of The Office on loop, wearing an oversized sweatshirt, and snacking. I love being busy but it’s nice to do some mindless binging as well :)
