Loviet

Loviet

Toronto based singer Loviet is breaking new ground with her distinct Pop/Rock anthems. The artist has grown up around musical influences, one being her mom, a fellow singer/songwriter. She slowly began to write her own music and made her streaming debut in 2019 with her single “Symbol Of Love”. The song was followed by 3 more singles that make up her debut EP Everyone Knows When The Thrill Is Over. “The Thrill” is seemingly Loviet’s most popular, earning the artist 26 thousand Spotify streams alone. Her strong vocal range and unique sound is on full display on tracks like “When It’s Over,” which holds a candle to many of the Indie Rock chart toppers today. She currently has over 50 thousand streams and only looks to continue this success in 2020. We recently talked to Loviet about her hobbies, plans for the future, and more!

How did you get started making music?

I was always surrounded by music growing up. My mom was a singer and songwriter, which sort of gave me my first interest in doing it myself, watching her on stage. I took some basic piano and guitar lessons when I was very young, and just sang along to tunes in my bedroom until I started writing songs and forming bands in my teens. When I started writing music, that was the moment things fit, and when I was really hooked and dedicated to being a player and singer.

Which instrument is essential for the perfect pop song?

That’s a totally tricky one for me! It has to be a voice, because honestly what would we even do with a pop instrumental in 2020 haha. But so much love to all the elements that make tracks so good.

What other genre could you see yourself having a career in?

I love this question. I already feel like I fell into the pop lane naturally but have leaned into a lot of other genres throughout the process. I’ve had “moments” (which were actually years) going through these stages in songwriting and growth that I’ve jumped head first into punk or rock bands, to country/Americana songwriting, to blues and jazz ensembles (though you won’t ever catch me doing jazz again..). It’s in my nature to write pop, so I think I’ll be here, but maybe we’ll see how close to the edge we can get. I’m also always tempted to do a raw stripped down record. Who knows.

Do you ever get writer’s block? How do you deal with it?

I get writers block all the time, especially if I’m going through something emotionally. A couple things that really do the trick almost every time for me is writing in a new space or change of scenery. Or doing some co-writing. I find I go away from a co-writing session sometimes and I appreciate the freedom of writing on my own more, or a co-write just goes great and two heads are better than one!

It’s collab time: who are you making a song with?

I’m like, give me Danielle Haim and H.E.R. — let’s make a smash!!

What is your favorite song off the new EP?

This has been changing for me as each song is released. It gives me a new love for each one when its moment is about to happen haha. I’m currently on “When It’s Over” as my fave, the third and final track from the EP. A super chill but honest track that still gives it in the chorus.

What does Loviet do in her free time?

I’m a bit of a weirdo that would rather be working haha. I kind of pour it back in when I get downtime. But summertime is my element, and I am living for a good beach day or reconnecting with nature and friends soon.
