Since her debut in 2012, Melody Federer has shown how adaptable and talented she really is. Her music is emotional and boundary-less. Her ability to express herself so effortlessly through such a complex medium has gained her a considerable audience, which doesn’t come as a surprise once you listen to her extensive discography. In addition to her 2017 album, When the Dogwoods Bloom, Melody has released over a dozen singles. 2018 brought us collaborations with SAMAHTA and TELYkast, which proved to be the catalyst of her EDM/Pop success. ”graffiti” is her most popular song to date, which currently has over 3 million Spotify streams. “101”, released later that year, also has received critical acclaim. With some new music on the way, we can’t wait to see what she’s cooked up next.  We recently spoke with Melody about her writing process, her hobbies, and more!

How did you start making music?

My dad would play piano and guitar by ear when I was little for fun sometimes. And I was always curious and drawn to it. He says I've been writing songs since I was a kid. I got more serious about it after my first break up.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love traveling, meeting strangers and making up songs about them, reading books, audio books, jumping into the ocean, playing piano, trying to learn how to cook. Lately I've been getting into cleaning the house a lot, lol. My younger self would be amazed.

When did you know you wanted to pursue a career in music?

I remember sitting in a library in New York City when I was 19 and having this moment of decision where I knew that path I was on wasn't what I wanted to do. I knew I was going to and was supposed to make music.

How do you overcome writers block?

I keep writing.

Describe your music in just three words.

Inspired. Honest. Emotional.

Who's someone that inspires you?

James Taylor.

Who's your partner in your dream collab?

Absofacto. Gary Clark Jr.

What are you planning for the future?

Oh. All kinds of adventures. My next song is always "the best" one, ha.
