Mimoza

Irresistible, unmatched vibrancy — there is no better way to describe Singer/Songwriter Mimoza and her music. Since the age of 17, the artist has continued to build her legacy as a certified hitmaker. Powerful pop anthems that include Ava Max’s “Kings and Queens” and “Anyway” with Tyron Hapi now boast over 300+ million streams, a repertoire that’s as diverse and intriguing as her backstory. Born in war-torn Kosovo, Mimoza moved to Sweden and Germany before settling in Los Angeles, California. This journey has brought an extensive knowledge of the world and a unique story-telling perspective, exemplified in her latest single, “Young Queen” — the artist’s vocals absolutely shine in this tribute to self-love and pride in humble beginnings. The song is matched with a stunning music video that features much of the elements exemplified in the song. Mimoza, by all accounts, is a star who is only just getting started. We spoke to the artist about “Young Queen” and more!

Mimoza! Thanks so much for speaking to us! Congrats on the success of “Young Queen” – what has the feedback been like since its release?

Thank you. The feedback has truly been heartwarming. I wrote the song from an honest place & to see that it connected with so many means the absolute world to me.

The song is stellar! Walk us through the inspiration for the track!

Thanks! I wanted to write an honest song that combines all the things I care about; which is self love, loving where you came from because it shapes who you become, loving your humble beginnings, your roots, your culture and what made you & raised you. For me it was my homeland, Kosovo and my mom. Both have played a huge role in who I am today. I wanted everyone to feel prideful.

The music video is so amazing as well! Tell us about the filming process, how did the inspiration from the song translate into the video?

I directed it and wanted to showcase a few things: our traditional clothes for one, our mother-daughter bonds, and just the overall beauty in my country. Mixing all those elements was important to me. I always care about the video reflecting the feel of the record and I'm very proud of how it came out.

Is there one line in particular from the song that holds a special significance to you?

"lessons we learn from our mothers, nothing but the best cause we come first" - I love this line because its how I was raised. I was raised to walk through life with my head held high. I also love "young king treat her like a young queen" a lot. It just basically tells the guy to be his best version and to respect your woman.

Speaking of lyrics, you are a linguistic talent! Which language is your favorite to write in and why?

I'm fluent in Albanian, Swedish, German & English – English is definitely the easiest language of all these four but it's not easy to write a meaningful record haha! Takes so much time and work. But when it's done I'm always super happy.

Your songs have over 300 million streams, all before your first EP. When can fans expect the project?

I’m honestly just focusing on singles at the moment. The industry has changed a lot. It used to be albums and EPs but now its mostly single based. I want to continue to put a few solo records out and once I have a bigger audience, then I'll drop an EP.

You live in LA now! Has the local music scene affected your style at all?

It pushes me to be the best I can be. I don't compare myself to others but I would definitely say that the level in Los Angeles is high and it's been great to grow as a vocalist, as a songwriter, as a director and really step up in my artistry. I can't wait to grow more.

Which aspect of music making do you like most: writing or performing?

I love writing new music. There's no greater feeling than creating something from nothing. I haven't performed so I honestly don’t know how that would feel. With that said, I can’t wait to do that soon – Unfortunately, because of Covid and the last year it didn't work out, but I’m hopeful that it will in the near future.

Say you're running a music festival – who are the three artists you’re choosing to headline the event?

Beyonce, Adele, Coldplay

You’ve made music for all kinds of genres – Is there one that you have been meaning to write for but have yet to do so?

I would say it’s all under the umbrella of pop music. I really don’t think about genres when I create music, I mainly focus on being truthful in my art, and whatever comes out is what it is.

Has there been an experience on this journey that still feels surreal to you?

Yeah, being #1 on the radio AC for 8 weeks with “Kings & Queens” by Ava Max that I helped co-write was pretty surreal. Also winning my first ASCAP award was pretty awesome too. I'd love to be #1 on Billboard myself with a solo record and win a Grammy for one of my songs as an artist. That would be incredible and that's my goal.

What is your best advice for an up-and-coming artist?

Don't take any advice and do whatever feels right. We all have a different path. Whatever feels right in your heart is what will work.

Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?

A lot of people: my awesome team, my family & God. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am and I wouldn’t have my songs. I am nothing without them.

What else can Mimoza fans expect in 2021?

New music super soon so stay tuned! So excited for my new single that I'm dropping in 1-2 months.
