nobody likes you pat

Pat Kiloran has been making music for as long as he can remember. The Tennessee-based singer/songwriter worked on multiple projects before embarking on his latest venture, nobody likes you pat, earlier this year. His music has done well in 2020-- the project’s debut single, “i hate all my friends (sometimes)”, saw considerable coverage with over 211k Spotify streams. He says that even through this early success, he remains unsure about what the future holds. “I’m still in the very early stages of it, and I have no idea what to expect,” he said. “I'll just keep making what I wanna make…And I’m having a really good time making it, so regardless it’s worthwhile.” The artist followed up the release with two more singles, both receiving head nods from Spotify’s playlist curators. In less than three months, nobody likes you pat has earned nearly 250k streams and a growing social media following. We talked to Pat about his latest venture, new music, and more!

Hey Pat! How did you get started making music?

I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember. From starting piano lessons, to quitting piano lessons because I hated playing other people’s songs. From making bad beats on GarageBand, to making a living making slightly better beats not on GarageBand.

The first thing that we noticed even before listening to your music was your name. What was the inspiration behind the name “nobody likes you pat”?

So, something I do outside of making my own stuff is make stuff for other people. This year I’ve been making a lot of beats for rap and hip-hop artists. And my producer tag before the beat hits is a girl saying, “nobody likes you pat”. So, when I decided to start putting out a new project, I just thought why not bring those worlds together into one realm. Producing is an art in and of itself and doesn’t get nearly enough credit. So, I’ll be both.

Whatever the case may be, that’s clearly not true. Your songs have been a hit on Spotify over the past year. What has this journey been like so far?

I just started this project in September. The first single was picked up by Spotify for some editorial support which was cool to see. I’m still in the very early stages of it, and I have no idea what to expect. But I’m just going to keep making what I want to make. Whoever is with it will get with it. And I’m having a really good time making it, so regardless it’s worthwhile. It’s already opened some doors that weren’t there before, so that’s nice.

You only started releasing solo music in 2020. What was the reasoning behind this?

With 2020 completely halting touring and slowing down the album release of my band, it felt like I needed something new to put my time into. Collaborating is awesome, but I love working alone often, as well. And this felt like an opportunity to express myself without (as many) outside factors. I also started therapy this year and changed a lot as a person. Every season brings about new material. I think of releasing music like a diary. So, I just needed to get these thoughts down and out.

We truly love all three of this year’s releases. Was there any, one song that was more difficult to make compared to the others?

I was very tedious with “i hate all my friends”. I took a lot of time fine tuning the smallest details. But that one came together smoothly. “i’m not afraid to die” was the only song I collaborated with someone else to make. I don’t collaborate much while making my own work, so I had to adjust my thinking a bit. But it was worth it, because it’s a great track.

“i’m not afraid to die” is certainly an eye-catching title. And after listening to the song’s upbeat tone, it’s clear that there may be some type of irony in the title. Can you explain the background behind the song?

I don’t write about it a lot, but my faith influences everything in my life. And as I get older, naturally, you remember that you will die. Like, you can’t not die. So, the main piece of the song is, “Hey, I’m gonna die. And I don’t know what that feels like, so that’s freaky. But I’m not worried about the afterlife because I have my faith as my hope that I needn’t fear it. It’s just the process of dying that sounds weird.

Who are you teaming up with for a dream collaboration and why?

Kanye West, every time. No question. My icon.

What can we catch you up to on your day off?

Chilling with my family. Snuggling my cats. Watching anime or cooking shows. Playing Nintendo. I just started buying stocks, so probably losing money.

Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?

Thank God I get to do what I do. Thank my wife for putting up with me and the chaos that is being an artist.

Lastly, what’s next for nobody likes you pat?

I’m working on a few really cool collaborations right now. And I’m going to gather a few songs up and drop an EP next year, I think. I don’t know. But I’m just going to keep trying to be better and better at my thing and find joy in it.
