Teddi Gold
Teddi Gold is proving herself a contender for being the next queen of pop. Raised on an isolated Caribbean island, the artist released her debut EP, Vol. 1, in 2019. She has certainly been on a roll, too, with plans to drop a follow up EP, Vol. 2, later this year. Through her effortlessly catchy melodies, as well as powerful both beats and vocals, Gold draws you into her world. Currently based in Los Angeles, the singer and songwriter has received a wide array of critical acclaim, citing praise from Earmilk, Popdust, and The 405, an interview with LA Weekly, and several spots on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds: Pop” Playlist. We recently spoke with Teddi about the story behind some of her songs, how she spends her time away from work, and more!
How did you get started making music?
I wrote poetry for years and met a songwriting mentor/teacher who taught me how to turn some of my poems into songs. I became obsessed with the process and quickly started taking songwriting classes, and I also taught myself how to play guitar so that I could write on my own. At the same time, I was working part-time in the music industry, and I was cast to lip-sync a Dusty Springfield song on the NBC show Aquarius. I spent hours in holding, and the person who was playing the drums on set was Scott Seiver, of Tenacious D. We talked about music and songwriting. I told him that I was writing music in my bedroom and recording songs on my phone, but that I never professionally recorded anything. He invited me to his studio where we ended up making a four song EP. It was then I realized I wanted to have a career in music. I fell in love with the entire process of creating music. From the beginning idea of a song to the final mixing and mastering. Long story short, I never had intentions of doing this. I fell into it. I actually thought I wanted to be an actress and was pursuing a career in that field when music caught me by surprise.
It’s collab time: Who are you choosing to make a song with?
I work a few people consistently. My friend Jon Buscema executive produced my upcoming EP, Vol.2. I also tend to write with another good friend Shayna Zaid and Kara Connolly, who are both amazing artist in their own right.
Dream venue?
Given recent events, any venue sounds like a dream right now! I can’t wait to play live again.
We loved your song “Video Games”. What inspired you to write the song?
Hah! Thanks. I wrote that song two years ago, and it quite literally was inspired by my boyfriend playing video games, but I also think, in a bigger picture, it’s about our addiction to our devices.
Favorite non music hobbies?
Cooking! I have been baking bread during this lockdown.
Describe your music in 3 words.
Bright, Positive, Quirky.
Any future projects for fans to look forward to?
I am releasing my sophomore EP, Vol.2, later this year so expect to hear a lot more music from me!
