This year celebrates a new high for Ryan Caraveo, the Seattle-born hitmaker who returns today with his new album Northend Sweetheart. The release comes following a string of 2021 solo singles, all of which are included in the project. The artist joined Universal Music Group’s 1824° team via virtual press conference to chat about the album, recent collaborations, and his upcoming tour.

Through seven years and five albums, Caraveo’s journey is one of many successes. Songs including 2014’s “Paradise” and 2019’s “Peanut Butter Waffles” provide benchmarks of evolution to his signature sound. It’s the reason why the artist says he’s most proud of the new album— Northend Sweetheart represents the progress, growth, and “reinvention of himself and what he’s good at.”

Emotion and truthtelling remain signature qualities to his music, both of which are demonstrated beautifully in the project. From the rock/r&b influenced “No Fun” to the mellowed-pop elements of “Ricochet,” his songwriting versatility is a rarity amongst industry contemporaries. In response to a question from Hip-Hop Daily, Caraveo requests that listeners should go solo upon first listen, presumably to absorb the music to its fullest.

Along with Northend, the artist’s impressive monthly streaming numbers have also been driven by a cover of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.” The track is a collaboration with two EDM heavyweights, Steve Aoki and Yves Vi, and has over 4.5 million Spotify streams and counting. Caraveo expressed the surrealism of working with the artist.

“(Eight years ago), I remember Steve Aoki was in town playing with Wocka Flocka and Boregore...We got in and I had the most amazing time of my life. To fast forward this many years and do a song with him is insane because that was a pivotal moment in my life…It was definitely a full-circle moment.”

Caraveo’s humility remains one of his most striking and personable qualities, especially considering his over 750 million digital streams. His excitement for the album and the rest of 2021 is shared by many of his fans, which of course includes us as well! Go stream Northend Sweetheart now by following the link below!
