Ella Wang

Ella Wang (@ella.wangg) is a 16-year-old TikToker from New York with a knack for showing off her creativity and talent. The teenage content creator primarily makes POV’s, mixing in the occasional dance or personal video into her typical posting schedule. It’s this distinct content that has truly made her account skyrocket in recent months. She joined the app back in late 2019, and since then, her page has grown to have over 242k followers. Overall, her page has a whopping 9.3 million likes, which is no easy feat. She may be young, but she’s certainly got what it takes to develop a significant fanbase. We recently spoke with Ella about her plans when she first joined the app, her favorite trend, and more!

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey everyone! My name is Ella and I am 16 years old. I currently live in Long Island, New York and I am a junior in high school. There’s not much interesting about me but I have three younger brothers and a dog!

Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you first joined TikTok?

When I first joined I really had no intention of being where I am now. I started TikTok around the end of 2019 with TikTok dances, but it was all as a joke. My friends and I would just film and post them for fun but it slowly became more serious!

Your content is composed of primarily POV's. What inspired you to pursue this niche?

I honestly can not remember how I started doing POVS. At the beginning, I posted TikTok dances that just got a couple hundred views. However, I guess as time went on and I saw POVS on my for you page, it got me really intrigued. It was really fascinating to me how creative some people are! POVS are really interesting and fun which is why I decided to take that route.

In addition to being an influencer you're also an extremely talented dancer. How did you first start out dancing?

Dancing came pretty early in my life. I started ballet at around 9 and did that style of dance for around a year or two. Ballet wasn’t really my thing, but then I was introduced to k-pop. At around age 11, I started to go to k-pop dance classes. That’s when I really started to grow my passion for dance! I spent around 2-3 years at that dance studio and then stopped going after being exposed to urban dance. When I was 14, I started taking dance classes in the city, taking intensives the summer of 2019. I made it onto a training team called Outbreak and from there I started to improve and grow my love for dance!

What's your favorite trend right now?

My favorite trend has to be the tennis skirts. They’re so cute and I think they look great with any fashion outfit!

How do you balance social media with your academics?

It’s definitely really tough but I like to make myself a schedule to follow. I try to minimize my time with social media by filming multiple videos for TikTok in one day so that most of my time is for school.

What's a song that you've been listening to nonstop?

I’m listening to “Happier” by Ed Sheehan quite often. The lyrics are so meaningful to me and it’s just such a vibe.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of social media?

Other than dancing, I love hanging out with my friends! Going to the city, taking pictures, getting lunch, just being with others is a memorable time. I also like to draw sometimes, though i’m not good, i enjoy painting when i’m bored!

Who's a TikToker that you'd love to collab with?

I’d really love to collab with Pearl, Sean, or Morgan! They’re all so talented and it would be such a pleasure to create a video together.

Any plans for the future?

Although I hope to grow my TikTok, i’m more focused on school right now. Being a junior in high school, there’s a lot of academic stress so i’m more focused on doing well in school.
