CREATOR FEATURE 〰️

At only 21-year-old, Gabby Morrison’s content displays a wonderful versatility that seemingly comes with being one of TikTok’s earliest viral stars. She’s given followers a look into her life – from dancing to acting, and most recently, worldly travels – since 2018, and continues to refine the meaning of influencership in the modern age. We recently chatted about her on-set experience starring in Attaway General, her forthcoming body-care line Lagoon, and advice for the next generation of content creators.

Hey Gabby, thanks so much for speaking with us! We love all of your content and most recently have been following your travels around the world.

It must be surreal to visit some of these countries – is travel something you’ve always been interested in?

Yes! I actually grew up traveling with my family so traveling is something I really can’t see my life without. We mostly traveled around this side of the world since my mom has a fear of flying, so short flights only haha. As of last year, I became determined to travel on my own and explore the other side of the world! I started in London and have since been to France, Amsterdam, and Italy. I spent about a month abroad each time I traveled over there and these experiences have already taught me so much and increased my love for travel even more!

Which has been a favorite location for you to explore thus far?

My favorite so far has definitely been London. I also spent the most time there, so I really got to know so much about the city! I had become so comfortable there in such a short amount of time to the point that I have started thinking about moving there so I can travel to Europe, Asia, and Africa much more easily.

You’ve already accomplished so much in your career, much of it before your 21st birthday – Happy Belated, by the way! When you first started creating content, did you have any set goals in mind of what you wanted to do in the space?

Thank you so much! Finally legal haha. I actually did not have any set goals when I started! I started TikTok before being a TikToker was even really an aspiration so I never thought it could turn into this for me! I really just wanted to dance more, and I always would make cringey lip-syncing videos on Snapchat so at least I found a platform for my lip-syncing skills to prosper hahaha. Then, as I continued, I found a genuine love for sharing with my community and creating content in general!

That being said, where do you draw most of your inspiration from today?

In terms of content, a large part of creating content on these social platforms is reading your audience as well as the trends on the app! I draw a lot of inspiration from trending music or sounds. I also draw from my own life and relatability a lot.

You crushed it as a co-star on BRAT TV’s Attaway General! How different was it to film on set as opposed to regular content creation?

It was very different from making content alone in my room but I really loved it! Since I used to dance and I had experienced that group effort to put something together I loved working with a crew and working on something together. It also felt good to have a little direction in my work. Social media is ever-changing and there really is not anyone to help you or give you direction, it’s up to you. So, having more in-depth directions of what I need to do each day and times set to work felt good.

Which do you most prefer and why?

I prefer filming on set. It helps me focus on just my craft and acting rather than when I do social media and I have to be the production as well as being the talent in the content.

What impact has dance had on your life and career?

I feel like I owe it all to dance. My confidence in front of people as well as my confidence in front of the camera came from hours of dancing in the mirrors in the studio and at home. I used to mostly create dance content on socials, and I always felt like my phone was a mini mirror. I even learned how to really do my hair at dance from doing slick buns and styles for it!

My work ethic and persistence also came from dance. I went dancing every day for years. Dance was the first time I really got to feel what it was like to love something while working hard for it. The pain was a good pain and all the time I put into it was filled with passion.

Your creative content takes on so many different niches – do you ever find it hard to balance between interests?

Yes! There is a little debate that having a niche is better for your socials because people will know what they are going to your page for. However, I feel like having multiple niches makes me who I am, and shows the different sides of me. I want to share all of my life and not only one piece of it because that’s what makes me a human. I find it difficult to choose one interest, so I do them all!

We’re excited to hear about the body-care line you’re working on! Can you share the backstory behind Lagoon

I’ve always had to be very particular with the skin care products I’ve used since I have sensitive skin as well as eczema. I have been so blessed to have the opportunity to partner with so many amazing sensitive skin brands and I’ve learned to know exactly what I like and have learned a lot about what I cannot use. I wanted to make a brand that fellow people with sensitive skin can use without having the fear of having bad reactions. I love having hydrated healthy skin and I love skincare so I want all of my fellow sensitive skin people to love skincare without fear!

What is the most important thing you want people to know regarding the brand?

The most important thing is making sure people have trust in knowing our products won’t give their skin bad reactions!

Having 3.5 million social media followers must come with a ton of internet “noise” – in what ways have you learned to persevere?

I have learned to persevere by keeping in touch with the new trends of all of the socials. All social media has trends that can be easily followed by spending time on the platform. I also keep my supporters updated on whatever is going on in my life! My life has been changing so much as I came of age and grew on my socials. I love to share my life and I try to keep everyone as updated as possible.

Can you pinpoint the most surreal moment in your career thus far?

There have been so many surreal moments, but I think the most surreal moment was during my launch event with GHD this spring. This was my first time being a host of an event and it was so surreal to see all the work I did with them in England showcased at that event. That entire day felt like a dream, and I could not believe that I had a part in something so big and amazing.

Lastly, what advice do you have for a content creator looking to follow in your footsteps?

My advice is really corny, but it really is to be yourself and have fun. There’s nothing people – especially me – love to watch more than people being themselves and enjoying it. Think about what you enjoy the most and film that, it could be something as simple as cleaning or cooking yourself food. Whatever makes you happy, post it! Don’t post it for anyone or for views, post it because you enjoy it.
