Anime has been on a long-winded journey of shedding its stigma and cementing itself as an integral part of pop culture. One TikTok user has most certainly played a role in this: Huda Noor. At only 18 years old, Noor (@hudanoor07) has amassed over 730k followers doing what she does best: sharing with the world her love of anime. When she’s not making videos alone about anime, she can be seen making videos with her brother (sometimes about anime), making videos with her friends (which are also sometimes about anime), or playing with her new pet bird (who is in fact named after an anime character). Consistency is certainly the secret to Noor’s success, though; she boasts 34.8 million likes across all of her videos. We recently spoke to Huda Noor, TikTok’s anime connoisseur, about when and how she first got into anime, how TikTok has changed her future plans, and more!

Hey Huda! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi! My name is Huda Noor. I’m currently 18 years old and I was born and raised in the United States. I’m the middle child with an older and younger brother. I love making (specifically anime) content that puts smiles on people’s faces and hopefully makes their day a little better. Besides making TikToks, I love hanging out with my friends, listening to music, and reading.

Why did you first start using TikTok?

I’ve had TikTok ever since 2019 and at first, I was just making them for fun with no specific niche, but then I started posting anime jokes in November of 2020 to express my love for anime. I really didn’t expect to blow up this much.

You’re clearly an anime lover; it’s what stands out most on your page. When did you get into anime?

I got into anime during quarantine when my brother suggested watching an anime called Hunter x Hunter. I never really started it until I was invited to a sleepover and my friend made me watch the first few episodes with her. I’m glad she did!

Was the correlation between TikTok and anime instant for you, or did it take some time for you to start posting anime content?

As soon as I started developing a love for anime, I had to express it in some way without annoying my friends, so I turned to TikTok for fun. I guess you could say it was pretty instant since it was more out of impulse to post anime TikToks. I never planned it out or ever thought that I want to become a popular anime content creator.

What’s your favorite thing about anime?

My favorite thing about anime has to be the fact that it’s so diverse. Sure, anime itself is a genre, but within it, there are so many sub-genres that everyone can enjoy.

Besides anime, you also post a lot with your little brother and even his friends on occasion. Has posting together brought the two of you closer together?

Definitely. We’ve always been close, but whenever we see a TikTok of the both of us blowing up, we love to celebrate together and share those feelings of excitement.

What do your parents think of your (and his by proxy) large online presence?

To be honest, I actually kept it a secret from them until I reached around 100K. I thought they were gonna think of me as foolish and silly, but they were actually so supportive after I told them, and I now consider them my biggest fans.

Is it ever hard to balance TikTok and the rest of your life?

Not necessarily. In life, you have to have a balance of work, school, AND hobbies. TikTok is my hobby. I try to never stress about making TikToks and just have fun with it.

How has TikTok changed your plans for the future, if at all?

I plan on continuing to make TikToks and maybe even expanding and making a YouTube or a Twitch in the future. I never really thought I’d make it this far and that it would eventually fall off, but now that I’ve earned a big following, I really want to continue to make people laugh and I’d definitely say TikTok has become a priority along with school and my career.

The new bird is cute! What made you get one?

Thank you! I’ve always wanted a pet but my parents would never let me, so I researched parakeets for a while and figured I would be able to take care of one on my own. I also wanted a pet that I could love and spend time with as well as give myself a better sense of responsibility.

Is Eren a big anime fan yet, or are you still working on it?

Haha! I actually sometimes make him watch anime with me and he seems to be liking it so far!

What are some of your other interests besides anime?

Besides watching anime and making anime content, I’m really interested in watching criminal cases on YouTube or documentaries about them. I’ve also really been getting into makeup and experimenting with it.

Have you ever considered displaying any of these other interests more frequently on your TikTok?

I’ve definitely considered it, but my interest and love for them aren’t nearly as overwhelming as my love for anime. I really couldn’t hold back with it and just had to make anime content since I had so many jokes and ideas all the time, and I thought others would enjoy them too.

What’s one piece of advice you have for anyone starting out on the app?

My number one tip is to be consistent. When I started out, I was posting maybe 3-5 times a day. Of course, new TikTok accounts won’t always blow up right away and it will take a while to get reactions, but don’t let that discourage you. Just find your niche and have fun with it!

What’s 2021 hold for you?

I’m starting college in the fall and I hope to go the pre-med route. I’m excited to start this new chapter in my life while continuing to do the things I love like making TikToks. I really want to just thank my fans and supporters because I definitely would not have made it this far if it weren’t for them. I will continue to make you guys smile and y’all can expect bigger and better things in the future!
