Alt Bloom combines musical ability and visual creativity like no other. The West Coast-based artist is able to take expressive songwriting and turn it into a hit with his authentic style. His 2019 debut single, “Call it Home”, was the kickoff to a career that has seen more success in one year than most artists in their entire tenure. He released “October Eyes” a few months later, which currently has over 1.2 million streams. The pair of hits cemented Alt Bloom as an early bloomer in the industry. This year, he dropped his debut EP, Astronaut Complex, which has helped him to gain a following of over 140K monthly listeners. Receiving recognition and features on Spotify’s Outliers and It’s a Bop playlists, it’s safe to say that Alt Bloom isn’t going away anytime soon. We recently spoke with the artist about how he started making music, his dream collab, and more!

How did you start making music?

Smoking weed with friends on rooftops and heart breaks. I started playing piano as a kid but started writing lyrics during my first breakup when I was 15.

How do you pass time out of the studio?

Drives, longboards, hikes, good times, and listening to the mass of artists out there these days. Also snacking my face off and drinking La Croix.

Growing up, what was your music taste like?

Whatever made it to Whitefish MT radio mixed with my dads vinyl collection and the cherry on top of Napster. From Tom Petty to 50 cent. I’ve always found magic in many styles of music.

What’s one thing you wish you could tell your past self?

Believe in yourself, believe in your thoughts and intentions. Don’t try and be the temperature of the room, be your own.

With every artist at your disposal, who’s your choice for a dream collab?

I’ve been loving Alexander23 lyrics, same with Chelsea Cutler. Kehlani if I’m really feeling my bad self. Drake if I want a feel good summer anthem that also knocks.

Let's talk about the new single "text talk touch". What was the inspiration behind it?

It was song two of the day. Sebastian, the co writer on it, literally said, “I want to write a song that talks about going from texting, to talking to touching”, he then walked out, came back in with the first verse and pointed at me to write the chorus. So I pretty much did the first thing that came out of my mouth, he said “that’s it” we recorded it down and kicked back till we freestyle the bridge. It was a beautiful day in Studio City.

How did the collab with gnash come about?

Friends of friends passing the record around looking for someone to hop on. Initially the thought was to have a girl but we loved the lyric of gnash’s verse which made it feel like we were vying for the same girl. Me just into it, him already having something with her.

Any other future projects for fans to get excited about?

Alt Bloom baby, we have releases slated every 6 weeks into March and I’m going to be releasing a ton of B sides that I love up on Soundcloud. Definitely mixing up the year and having fun with the downtime. Hope you all are too fam. Thanks for the time!
