BARii
New Jersey native Barii has found immense success as an artist in all of the many arenas of music. Barii is not only the voice behind his songs, of which he has two as a solo artist, but he also writes and produces them. With tens of thousands of streams on Spotify alone, it’s no surprise that Barii’s work has been featured in various productions, including originals from BET, CBS, and Netflix. Besides (successful) solo endeavors, BARii has had his fair share of duets, the most notable being a collaboration with Jon Bellion (“All Time Low”). BARii made his solo debut in 2020 with “Do You Right,” which he then followed up with his sophomore single, “Good Morning America,” which was released November 6th and beautifully discusses our current political climate. We recently spoke with Barii about his experiences working with other artists, the pandemic’s effect on his production process, and more!
How did you get started making music?
Growing up in New Jersey, I played on the drumline of the local drill team. We traveled all over the country performing and competing. As a kid, I got in trouble alot and my mother would take away all privileges for months at a time haha. I had a Windows desktop that had this cool beat making program on it, so when she went to sleep I spent hours learning how to use it.
How has your experience working with other artists prepared you for releasing your own songs?
Working with other artists taught me the art of arranging and putting songs together. It also taught me how to highlight the best elements of a song.
Congrats on the release of “Do You Right”! What inspired the song?
Thank You! “Do You Right” was inspired by being stuck in the house during quarantine. The lyrics are exactly how I felt that morning! I got dressed and recorded and produced the song in my living room.
What motivates you to make music? Walk us through your typical songwriting process.
I get motivated by life experiences, all of my lyrics have some direct correlation to my life. I produce and write my own songs, so typically I start with a loop, add drums then record. Once I finish the vocals I go back in on the production.
Who are some artists that have helped shape your sound?
I don’t have a particular artist to credit my sound to, but I would have to say anything that pushes the envelope sonically inspires me to make new music.
How has the pandemic affected your ability to song-write?
It actually has helped me because I’m now able to focus more on myself as an artist rather than creating for others.
What is the best piece of advice that you’ve ever received?
This is not the fanciest answer but it was “create a plan.”
Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?
My immediate family, and anyone who has ever supported me.
What’s next for Barii?
A lot more music, visuals, and placements that I’m very excited about!
