Brennan
LA-based Brennan Latimer, a.k.a. “Brennan”, has been surrounded by music since the age of 8. After years of honing his craft, he finally decided to release music professionally in 2020, with his debut single “Killa”. It now has over 198K streams on Spotify alone. His skills extend beyond writing and singing—he’s also a producer and pianist. He leaves a defining mark on everything he touches, which adds to his music’s deeply personal vibe. His involvement in most, if not all, parts of the process undoubtedly adds to the listening experience. Now, with 35K monthly listeners and more music on the way, we can only predict more of the same from him: success. We recently spoke with Brennan about how his father cultivated his passion for music, his songwriting process, and more!
How did you start making music?
My introduction to music came at age 8, when my dad and I formed an unstoppable father-son band. Although the band was short-lived (due to my rigorous 2nd grade workload), it afforded me my first opportunity to play the piano. For the next decade or so I always maintained a strong interest for producing, singing, and songwriting, but I finally took the leap to properly learn about two years ago.
Where is your go-to location when it’s time to write?
Anywhere and everywhere! Ideally somewhere sunny, but it depends on the mood! I enjoy writing and playing the piano in conjunction, and also with other people. Sometimes it’s fun to write while taking a walk, especially with ambient music playing in the background.
Favorite non-music activities?
I love spending time with my friends and family, watching sci-fi movies, playing beach volleyball, boxing, and swimming. I also enjoy reading, stargazing and thinking about the universe.
Walk us through making “Killa”. What was the inspiration for the song?
I was shopping in Trader Joe’s and saw a very attractive girl. I imagined a scenario in which we dated and wrote the lyrics and melody when I got back to my car. I put what I had to chords when I got back home and produced the rest from there. To this day I wonder what she is doing…Will she ever know she provided the inspiration for “Killa”? Probably not :)
Describe your music in just 3 words.
Anthemic, deliberate, fierce.
Who’s your partner in a dream collab?
Tyler Joseph (Twenty One Pilots)
Any future projects for fans to get excited about?
Just released a new single, “Bad For You”. It’s a Pop-Rock Dance song that brings the heat! I also have two more ballads releasing in the fall, which show a more vulnerable but powerful side of my artistry.
