HANNI
In a sea of new age indie pop artists, Australia’s HANNI stands out. The 18 year old is no stranger to music, having been making songs since her early teenage years. However, since she decided to release her work professionally, it’s clear the singer/songwriter was made for making music. Her debut single “Wired” dropped in 2019, and it now has 128K streams on Spotify alone. She followed the song up with three new releases in 2020: “Golden Eyes,” “Crazy,” and “If All I Ever Did.” Her audience has expanded greatly since her first release, now consisting of over 15K monthly Spotify listeners. In addition, she’s received considerable attention via features on popular Spotify playlists like Indie Arrivals and Brekkie Time. We recently spoke with HANNI about her favorite hobbies, her passion for creating music, and more!
How did you start making music?
I probably started making my own music when I was around 14 and those songs will never ever see the light of day, but I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember (not always well, I might add)!!
What are some of your favorite non-music related activities?
Some of my favorite non-music related activities would be taking and developing film photos, buying new plants, playing animal crossing & doing crafty stuff!
What's your favorite part about creating music?
I have 2 favourite parts about creating music. Number 1, being depending on what mood I’m in that hour, who I’m are writing with, what time of day it is, what happened yesterday or what’s going on in my life will depends on what song I end up creating. Honestly I think it’s so interesting how I can l start writing a song and lyrics will come out about something I didn’t even realize I was upset over. Number 2, being that I could write a song about something so specific, yet someone else will listen to it and have a totally different meaning to the song
From where do you draw inspiration for your songs?
Typically, just like other song writers I draw inspiration from silly boys or people that have slightly annoyed me!! I draw inspiration from things happening in my life past and present, they are mostly from the bad but sometimes the good things as well!
Where is your go-to location when it's time to song write?
I wish I could say that my go-to location to write songs was a cool place but honestly it’s on my bed in my room. I have a studio room right next to my bedroom yet I sit in my bed and write songs because it feels safe.
If you could pick anyone in the world to collaborate with, who would you pick?
I don’t think I could possibly ever pick one artist to collaborate with and I have way to many artist I would. BUT I would give anything to write songs with blackbear and Lennon Stella. Even thinking about being in a studio makes me want to cry!!!!
What can we look forward to from you in the future?
More and more music !!! My next single called “Golden Eyes” will be out on the 20th of August!
