Chelsea Cutler & Quinn XCII
Stay Next To Me Tour:
WIMITLA. Concert Review
By Alix Negrin
After working for some years in the live music world, a good-quality show always hits different. Thanks to Universal Music Group’s °1824 team, I was able to see Chelsea Cutler and Quinn XCII perform live at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre last week, and it’s safe to say that this show was amazing.
The set design was simple, yet perfectly fitting to the artist’s performances. The lighting direction featured a beautiful blend of dim neons that captured the slower songs, while more powerful beams synced with the more upbeat tracks.
Chelsea Cutler is a stand-out on any track, but it’s the impeccable quality of her live vocals that resonated throughout the entire crowd. I’ve always loved her music but never realized her amazing control until hearing it there in concert. The artist put together an amazing setlist that sent the audience (including me) on a roller coaster of emotions. She made her more produced songs feel as live as possible, even using her Maschine to create the true melody of “The Reason.” With a guest appearance from Jeremy Zucker and a cover of “Mr. Brightside,” Chelsea was simply in top form. And when she sang “Crazier Things” – just stunning.
Quinn XCII was just as spectacular on stage. I actually first became a fan of his through 2017’s “Flare Guns” featuring Chelsea. Standouts, in my opinion, included “Coffee,” “Stacy, and “Candle” – those were the ones that I was especially dancing to. His guest appearances further added to the show’s aesthetic. He brought out Marc E. Bassy, Alexander 23, and Ashe, all of whom killed their performances. Quinn and his wife also shared the sweetest moment when he brought her on stage for the crowd to sing her “Happy Birthday.” These two sharing the stage was the most genius tour collaboration I’ve seen yet. 10/10
