Chief Vice
Chief Vice has finally found his groove. After years of making music for fun, he pursued this passion professionally in 2019 with “Like Me”. He followed the song up with a series of three singles, releasing “We Ain’t Equal” in 2020. This past June, the artist released his first commercial album, “Nothing to Something”, which contained his most popular songs to date. This includes “Heartless”, which now has over 136K streams. In his short career, Chief Vice has accumulated over 5K monthly listeners and a growing fanbase. The rapper has also had features on albums by fellow musicians Monarch and Playboy G. We recently spoke with Chief Vice about the origins of his name, how he started making music, and more!
How did you start making music?
I actually started making music and diss tracks in middle school with some friends. I found a passion for music as I got older, and then started to take it seriously in high school around my sophomore year.
What are your favorite non-music activities?
Outside of music, I play basketball for my high school. I often use basketball references in my music to express my connection with the sport.
How’d you decide upon your stage name?
I came up with my artist name Chief Vice, from my African influences. “Chief” is a leader or the person in charge, and “Vice” is what my auntie would call me as a nickname. I put two and two together and have been Chief Vice ever since.
Many artists have a dream venue: What’s yours?
I think a dream venue for me would be Capital One Arena in DC. It be a dream come true to sell out my local arena and have the whole city come and show love.
It’s collab time: who are you choosing to make a song with?
My dream collab would be a song with Lil Baby. He’s killing the game right now and is really putting on so many artists with each feature. (Lil Baby let’s work!)
What can Chief Vice fans keep an eye out for?
My supporters can definitely keep an eye out for a new project really soon. I just dropped my debut EP Nothing to Something and my supporters went crazy! I’m ready to put out my next tape that I feel can show how versatile I am as an artist. Be ready for some summer vibes #staytuned
