Luke Prost
Luke Prost is simply one of a kind. The Nashville, Tennessee native brings a unique soundscape to the industry, incorporating electronic and indie-pop undertones. In March, he released his debut single “Crubbs”. The artist followed up the track with “Ethereal 2”, his most popular, with over 10K streams. August saw Prost’s debut album, Demos Demos Demos, which consisted songs like “Knock”, which saw significant Spotify success. In his short time releasing music, he has built up a fan base of over 2K monthly listeners on Spotify alone. It is clear that there is a lot more music to come. We recently spoke with Luke Prost about how he started making music, his dream collab, and more!
How did you start making music?
I grew up in STL playing pop-punk shows with my two older brothers at band camps and shit, but I never had a band or anything like ever. It wasn't until I was around 12-13 when my brother, Brian, let me take his friend's copy of Reason (a recording software). I started off making really shite beats haha. I didn't have many friends in high school so I got really good at producing pretty quickly. I started uploading my own stuff as well as remixes and all that on Soundcloud. Eventually, I moved to Spotify and all that; in high school, though, I was mainly making dubstep.
It’s your day off: How are you spending it?
Oof, that's a hard question to answer during COVID since that's every day lmao. But I'd say I would wake up, make some eggs, make a beat, watch a Lynch movie, watch some Super Mario 64 conspiracy theory videos on YouTube (specifically the theory that every copy of the game is personalized to the player eek), go to a protest downtown, then come back for a solid Zombies game on Black Ops 2 with my roommate Sam. I forgot about the other meals lol but I would make those as well. PS, nobody needs to eat meat anymore, just go to Trader Joes once and you'll be like oh fook! Anyway sorry. After I play Zombies, I would just go to my room, lay on my bed and listen to some Alice Coltrane, and then hit the hay.
What was the last song you listened to?
“Blackout” by Breathe Carolina. So fucking good.
Describe your music in just 3 words.
Bjork would approve.
It’s collab time: who are you choosing to make a song with?
Ooh, I love this question. Off the top of my head, I would love to work with Ecco2k. Their voice is so fucking beautiful, we could create such a groove together.
Which song is your most personal? Can you explain to us its significance?
“Shelter” by Porter Robinson/Madeon. It's a song that makes me cry every single time, especially the music video (everyone go check that shite out). I listened to that song all the time with my brothers when we all lived in STL together, and it brings me back to that time so beautifully. Words by Porter Robinson will forever be my favorite album of all time, I have a tattoo of it lol.
Any future projects for fans to get excited about?
YES! I have an EP called Musika that’s out now!! It's definitely a new direction for me in the context of my other stuff that's out there, so approach it with caution, eek.
