Emily Vu

Creating songs is almost second nature to pop artist Emily Vu. The Garden Grove, California native is a lifelong musician, playing her first instrument at the age of four. Fourteen years later, she’s taken the music world by storm with her talent and personality, racking up 266K monthly listeners on Spotify. She first gained popularity through her TikTok account, on which she posted multiple singing covers. The overwhelming positive response to those videos finally led her to release original music. Her 2019 single, “What Happened, Happened”, hit over 1 million streams— yet she’s barely scratched the surface of her hit-making potential. The artist has since released 6 more singles, all receiving critical acclaim. Now, she hopes to cement herself as a household name in the industry. We recently spoke with Emily about her favorite part of the music making process, her musical family, and more!

How did you get started making music?

I started making music not too long ago. I've been playing different instruments since I was 4 years old but I never thought about making my own music until about last year when I was a senior in high school.

Is your family at all musical?

Yes, my family is pretty musical. My siblings and I were all put into piano at a young age and my dad actually plays a couple instruments as well. We even played all together for church sometimes with me on the guitar, my sister on the piano, and my dad on the drums.

What are your favorite and least favorite parts about the production of a song?

I definitely do not have a least favorite part when it comes to production but my favorite part has to be tracking it. I love hearing how the melody and lyrics fit all together in the end.

What’s one type of song you want to have on your first album?

One type of song I want to have on my first album is an EDM song. I always get compliments about how my voice would fit really well on an EDM song so that's definitely something I wanna experiment with.

What do you like to do when you’re not making music?

When I'm not making music, I love to hangout with my friends and just go to the beach. The beach is my favorite place to go.

Who would be your partner in your dream collaboration?

My dream collaboration would be with Lauv. I've been such a big fan of his for years. He's a big inspiration for the music I tend to make.

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

I have lots of future projects for supporters to be excited about but we'll keep all that a secret for now.
