Miss Sister

Miss Sister

Sweden’s Miss Sister has gained significant international popularity following her 2018 streaming debut. The artist began her musical journey at a young age, singing and songwriting all through her teenage years. Her singles “I Can Have Fun on My Own” and “Buhu (Vic Roz Remix)” have racked up hundreds of thousands of streams. An electric style backed by infectious pop melodies truly set the artist apart— She’s been featured on popular Spotify playlists like “Heart Beats” and “GRL PWR”, and has played festivals around Europe. Collaborations with German producers have only grown her fanbase, as she’s gained over 51K monthly listeners on Spotify since her first release. We recently spoke with Miss Sister about her dream collab, her songwriting process, and more!

How did you get started making music?

My passion for music has always been there. My mum sang for me all the time, and let me go to song and piano lessons, choirs, and dance school from a young age. My brother could play instruments and started to teach me. But the writing part started in middle school. In my music classes, I wrote all the time. Then I went to high school for music and songwriting. One of my songs went viral here in Sweden in 2016— I was singing about the fear of walking home alone in the dark. There were soooo many women who were feeling the same fear, and they felt strength after listening to my song. That was when I realized that I wanted to do more than just sing. I wanted to be a sister for all women out there so they could stop feeling alone and so we could start fight together. I got a label after that song and started releasing my music for real.

Any dream collabs?

I’ve got a lot of them! But Lily Allen, Meghan Trainor, Anne-Marie, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes are on top. Would also love to do something with our Swedish queen Mia Skäringer some time!

Any dream venue?

Actually not, of course I want to stand in the Globen, Super Bowl, and a world tour. But the focus for me is to get my message out to as many people as possible. So yeah, big stages and arenas are tempting but not my main focus.

What was the last song you listened to?

“Don't Tell Me What To Do” - Namelle. It gives me so much confidence. Thank you girl for that track!

Run us through your typical song writing process.

I usually have an idea or a lyric line and melody that I record in my mobile when it comes to me. So I listen to it and find chords that match, and then I just let the lyrics and melody come. Also with a guitar or piano in my hands, if I'm alone. But if I'm in a session with a producer and one more topliner, we talk about my life, moments, and relationships until we find something to go further with. Find a hook, and then the producer does some magic until we have a good outcast that we can do the whole topline on.

Favorite non music activities?

Cuddle with my nephew or listen to a good podcast on a long walk. Hang with family and friends in the sun, eat ice cream, and take a swim in the ocean or nearest lake.

Any future projects for fans to look forward to?

I have lots of songs and videos that I will release this summer. So be ready on Spotify - Miss Sister. I released "Hello Freedom" June 19, will do a featuring that will be out July 2 (interview conducted prior), and then my next song "Get Off Me" is out July 24. So even if the tour is cancelled because of the virus; I'm sad to not be able to go to the places around Europe and Sweden as we planned to do, but I won’t let it break me! I will release as planned, and do two small live gigs here in southern Sweden. Look me up on Instagram or Facebook if you want to come or wanna join a livestream that happens from time to time. Hope to see you, live or through the screen!
