Purely and perfectly pop, Ivo Lima’s music is modern and magical, yes; but, most importantly, it’s beyond catchy. Originally from Bergen, Norway, the 24-year-old musician draws inspiration from his rainy hometown, which he cites as the ideal place to write. Well, Lima’s career is certainly proof that every rainstorm brings a rainbow: the artist has over 210k Spotify streams between only 6 songs, as well as coveted spots on several Spotify-curated playlists, including Fresh Finds: Pop. With the mid-June release of his debut EP, Used to see eye to eye, Ivo Lima is sure to leave you wanting more. We recently spoke with Lima about how he spends his time off work, his favorite songs of his, and more!

How did you start making music?

I wrote my first song (like I described it) when I was around 15. It was like therapy. When a girl from school broke my heart or when I felt left out by my friends, it was just natural to pick up the guitar and start writing. It was my way of dealing with things. So that’s how I started. But when i was 18 I found this producer (who’s now my manager) and we worked together in his studio. I remember it was so mind-blowing being in a professional studio for the first time. I felt like i had made it already, haha. But that’s when I really got into the craft of songwriting.

What do you like to do when you’re not in the studio?

I love hanging out with friends, i love running, and I love a good read or movie. I love playing soccer to, but I never seem to find the time. I should definitely get back on that horse again.

Describe your music in just 3 words.

Powerful Vulnerable Pop.

Which of your songs was your favorite to write and why?

It must be “All I Wanna Do”. I wrote this with a good friend of mine, Mathias Wang. The whole process of writing and producing it went so fast, and it was just the best feeling. I remember when we finished the demo, like 3am, we listened to it on our headsets on our way home. We just went crazy, dancing in the streets, with a big smile on our face.  That feeling I get during a good writing session, is the best. It’s the reason why I do music. So therapeutic.

It’s your day off. Where are you going?

I’m a musician, so everyday is a day off. Haha, just kidding. I normally do something relaxing. Like hanging out with my friends, go for a walk, watch a movie. I also love to stay inside and be in my own company. Charge the batteries.

Who’s your partner in a dream collab?

My partner in a dream collab must be Matthew Healy from The 1975. We would make a sad sad dance song that would take over every afterparty-stereo in the whole wide world. Like their song «Somebody Else», wow wow wow, what a tune.

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

I’m working on my second EP now, and I’ve got so many plans for it! Can’t wait to get it done. I’m also looking forward to play shows again. I have some delayed EP-release shows I wanna do. So let’s just hope covid-19 dies soon.
