Ty James
Like the many great artists of this generation, Ty James got his start producing in his bedroom and uploading it to Soundcloud. The 21-year-old from Indiana made his way onto the scene in 2019 with hits like “Splash,” an effortlessly catchy hip hop and pop combo with superb vocals. “Temptations,” a similar song with more of a LoFi feel, also can be credited with his takeoff. Most recently, James, who has over 14 million Spotify streams, released his first full-length album, Welcome to Litropolis. Alternating between the aforementioned hip hop/pop and R&B ballads (ie: “Walk With Me”), the up and coming artist has earned his place on 2 Spotify-curated playlists, the first of many accolades to come. We recently spoke with Ty James about some career goals of his, what’s next, and more!
How did you start making music?
I started making music when I was young with my father. He’s was always making music and I naturally just always had a love for it. Starting at nine years old, my father would record me on his studio equipment from home.
Who’s your dream collab and why?
My dream collab would be Kanye West. He’s like the new Quincy Jones. He really brings out the best in every artist he works with. I’d be like Micheal Jackson. It’s funny cause i’m from a small town in Indiana and he’s from Chicago. He’s a legend.
Describe your style as a musician in just three words.
Magic, love, and money.
Favorite things to do when you aren’t making music?
I like to play video games, meditate, read books, and listen to music.
Most artists have a dream venue. Where's yours?
Madison Square Garden. I’m going to sell out The Garden one day. It’s already written in the books of times. it’s my destiny and i believe it with everything in my heart. To me, it already happened.
Where do you draw inspiration from when making music?
Everywhere. Life is music. If I feel like i need to be inspired, I’ll go on a walk outside or something. Really connect with nature. Free my mind. I let everything come to me. I don’t force anything. It really all comes from my heart. That’s where all the answers are. But, for me to hear my heart, my mind needs to be calm. That’s why I do things like mediation.
Any future projects for fans to get excited about?
Fasho. I’m always working on making the best music I can make. The fans can expect the best from me. I’m always finding new ways to be better. My fans deserve my best.
