Sunshine and good vibes are all that come to mind when listening to Pop Artist Nicky Youre. Southern California’s very own has taken the Gen-Z music circuit by storm since scoring his TikTok viral hit, “Sunroof” with dazy in 2021. The sweltering debut single has been streamed over 34 million times on Spotify, serving as a timeless display of his ever-positive and optimistic songwriting. Youre’s collab with LAIKI, “Sex and Lemonade”, does more of the same. With music that’s perfect for a drive down the California coastline, his streaming success comes as no surprise.

Now, he joins fellow Indie Artist david hugo to release “Never Go Wrong” – we speak to him about TikTok virality, favorite LA foodie destinations, and more!

Hey Nicky! Thanks so much for speaking with us and congrats on the release of “Never Go Wrong”! How are you feeling now that the track is out?

Thanks for chatting with me! I am feeling great now that the song is out. I’m excited to have added a new one to my portfolio and I can’t wait to keep doing so this year.

Can you walk us through the inspiration for the song?

We wanted to write a song about people that seem too good to be true but are really just that good. “I’ve seen you in a movie” is about meeting someone who feels like they walked right out of a movie and stepped into your life. “I heard you in a song” is falling for someone who would get songs written about them. At the end of the day, we wanted to write something that was fun and easy to listen to at any point in the day, and I hope that people are able to do that with this song!

Nicky Youre and David Hugo / 2022

This release features a collaboration between you and David Hugo. How did you two meet and what was it like working with him in the studio?

We met through the internet and connected on a personal level pretty quickly. It was super fun working with him on this song since we are into a lot of the same things when it comes to music. We made this song the second time we had ever hung out and I couldn’t be happier with it.

In a teaser shared to TikTok, you share your favorite lookout spot in Los Angeles. As a local, where are some must-visit destinations for those who are new to Southern California?

Well, I'm currently a local to Orange County, but what I truly love is food. So I would say some must-tries are Zen Sushi in Aliso Viejo, Sancho's tacos in Newport Beach, and Honeymee in Irvine.

You’ve admitted that you felt anxious before releasing “Sunroof”, your debut single. Has this changed at all since the debut release?

Not yet. I’m still nervous for this release, but I think that’s because I’m passionate about it and hope that it connects with people the way it does with me. I’m really proud of how it’s turned out, but there’s always gonna be some amount of nerves with each release, I think for me at least.

There is always a certain uniqueness to each artist when it comes to TikTok virality – how would you best sum up this experience?

TikTok is such a hard tool to navigate. Some videos will blow up for no reason and others will get no views. It’s really tough to get a song to blow up, but if you can, it can really get your career started and or moving. Right now, I’m just focusing on posting as close to every day as I can.

Do you have any advice for your 2017 self?

I wouldn’t say much, I would just tell young me to do whatever you do with confidence. It’ll all work out in the end!

Who are three up-and-coming artists that you have on your playlist at the moment?

Ori Rose, Devon Again, and Renao. All are amazing at what they do.

Aside from music, what is something you are passionate about?

Right now, my entire life is music. However, I do love food and I also enjoy golf quite a lot. I started in Covid and I’m really close to breaking 90 but I can’t seem to get there. This year I will definitely do it though!

Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?

My family, friends, and management team for believing in me and for pushing me to follow my dreams with confidence.

Lastly, what else can we expect for the rest of 2022?

More music! I actually just recently quit my full-time job to commit to my music career. There will be lots more songs this year and the many years to come.
