PNK FME
By Rachel Tair
Producer, writer, and vocalist all wrapped into one, PNK FME has seen abundant success over the past few years. Since 2018, the artist has released multiple tracks, including his debut EP, “I’ve Never Been Me.” FME says that the EP “explores the reality of mine by exposing the impact of mental health and personal growth I’ve undertaken.” It is clear that he is not scared of implicating vulnerable lyrics on top of his lo-fi beats in his tracks. This style has given FME upwards of 70 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify and over 150,000 listens on his single, “Not Okay.” FME says he is currently in the process of remixing his new track “Body Language.” FME’s unique sound and inclusion of electronic beats in his song definitely makes him an artist to watch. We recently spoke with the up and coming PNK FME about his songwriting process, musical inspirations, and more!
How did you start making music?
I started creating music about five and a half years ago. That said, music has always filtered through my life. I've always been interested in the creative side of music but it wasn’t until I was older I took the next step of actually diving in! I started on Ableton as it was a DAW and it just took off from there.
Besides making music, what’s something you enjoy doing?
There are two definite things I enjoy, and these are high end supercars/racing cars (GT3’s, F1) and Fashion. Both are something I absolutely love as they encapsulate me as a person as they're extremely expressional.
In your opinion, what’s the most challenging part about creating music?
Hmmm I think dry spells of writers block can be really difficult to deal with. Writers block disconnects me from expressing emotions or catching a certain vibe I am feeling. The other would have to be the confrontation of emotions and processing the raw honesty of myself as I unpack my mind. Added to that, listening back to what I've created can be extremely hard sometimes as it reignites those internal struggles.
From where do you draw inspiration for your verses?
Purely just from the world that surrounds me day to day. I think having ADHD and perceiving the world as I do will always make me experience a massive plethora of emotions. Even though there are massive highs and lows, I absolutely love every single one! For instance my debut EP, I've Never Been Me explores this reality of mine by exposing the impact of mental health and personal growth I've undertaken.
Who’s someone that inspires you?
Oooooo there are honestly so many, my tops would be Lewis Hamilton, Tyler The Creator, Billie Elllish, Travis Scott, and Skrillex... I’d say they're on my top at the moment? who knows it could change in a week, as a week to me feels like a year.
Who’s your partner in your dream collab?
James Blake and Kid Cudi! I know you said one but this would be the dream! I absolutely love James Blake’s song writing and storytelling. It's just other worldly for me and his music always makes me feel something unique! Kid cudi personally has always been a low key favourite of mine and so on! I love his vocal style and his vibe that he seems to never not catch in every song!
Any plans for the future?
Massively, I have so many! Imma keep them all underlocks to make them mysterious, plus I’d just be telling the plot to the story and give away too much. Just kidding, I have a cool producer friend of mine, Lucien remixing my track 'Body Language' which may or may not be released at the point of publication. Outside of that I'm working on more music for myself and other acts.
