Georgia-born musician Silent Child grew up with an unconventional childhood; his ADHD and Aspergers made social situations tough. Now, he expresses himself through another medium: music. After learning to produce during this sophomore year of high school, he released his debut single, “Don’t Feel So Bad”, in 2019. The song put on the artist on the map, currently boasting 61K streams on Spotify. Silent Child, unsurprisingly, hasn’t stopped since. In 2020, he released multiple songs, including his most popular yet: “F*ck You,” with over 1.5 million streams. Other songs like “Freak” and “I’ll Be There For You” also put his creativity on full display. With 487K monthly listeners, things only appear to be looking up for the artist. We recently spoke with Silent Child about his childhood, his style of music, and more!

How did you start making music?

I started making music in 2015-2016, which was my sophomore year of high school. I actually failed every class that year as well as my junior year to learn how to produce.

What are your favorite non-music hobbies?

Non-music hobbies got thinner as my life just got more complicated, so really now it's just a bunch of video games. Mainly Apex.

Describe your music in 3 words.

My music described in 3 words would be: Unique, but familiar.

How has Asperger’s affected your music career, if at all?

It's really all about opportunities. I have no idea how to really comfortably or naturally interact with people unless they are pretty good friends, so getting contacts or putting myself out there to be more marketable has been a struggle.I just never understood people completely enough to be comfortable. Because of this, I missed a lot of opportunities that probably would've had me a lot farther than where I am today, but I don't dwell on it.

What’s been your favorite part of making music?

My favorite part about making so far has been being able to incorporate all these different instruments and elements from every genre i've learned and turn it into something somehow almost brand new. It's a really cool feeling when you just make something that you've never heard before.

If you could choose any artist, which would you pick for a dream collab?

Dream collab has to be either Skrillex or San Holo. Skrillex literally got me into every style of music and got me into producing completely, but San Holo set me on the path that got me here, so they're tied for 1st place haha.

What’s next for Silent Child?

Honestly I have absolutely no clue what's next for me. I never even really envisioned myself getting as far as I am now, but my style has taken a huge turn recently and I think that whatever happens next, people will definitely like. I'm on a journey to become a rockstar haha.
