Soul Push is pushing the boundaries of the Alternative/Indie Rock genre. When Canadians Andrew Dixon, Dallyn Hunt, and Tim Morrison teamed up with South African songwriter Conan Jurek, a magical quartet came to be; they adopted the name Soul Push in early 2020. Formed after a mutual desire to chase inspiration in Europe, the four wrote and recorded music abroad before returning back to the North American scene. In songs like “Diamonds” and their most recent “Your Touch,” indie, pop, synthesizer, and soft rock become one. Mixing their genre-fluid music with impressive vocal harmonies, the group creates something beautiful. And, with spots on 5+ Spotify-curated playlists as well as millions of streams, it seems the world agrees. We recently spoke with Soul Push about their biggest musical influences, future projects, and more!

How did you start making music?

I started making music when I was about 11 years old. I decided to play the drums after watching School of Rock as a kid and it developed from there. I always made a lot of demos in high school but never did anything with them until I started playing with Andrew, Dallyn, & Tim.

What are your favorite non-music activities?

We all like different things. I enjoy filming, writing, & eating pizza. Tim loves biking and extreme sports, while Dallyn and Andrew love golf… it’s all they ever talk about.

What is the best part about being a band?

We’re all best friends, so anything band related is just an excuse to hang out with your mates. That’s the secret to life. Have a job where work time is play time.

Who were some of your favorite artists growing up?

So many to count. Bombay Bicycle Club, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Cher, those are the ones that come to mind.

What was the inspiration behind the new single, "Your Touch"?

At the time we lived in London (UK) and a few of us were in long distance relationships. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done — and I don’t recommend it to anybody. I was constantly missing my partner in Canada and longing for that touch… so the song was born. To be completely honest with you I think I was sitting on the loo yelling lyrics and melodies to Andrew in my bedroom and he was writing them down. You could say we’re close.

It’s collab time: who are you choosing to make a song with?

Mmmm we’re currently brainstorming some ideas with one of our favorites Brothers from Another. We saw them at a festival years ago and became fans instantly. They are rad. The timing seems to be right now so we’re slowly accumulating some ideas — stay tuned.

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

Awe hell yeh, besides a few collabs and some whacky content, we’ve got so much music coming out in the next year. We’ve released 5 songs in the last 8 months and we’re not stopping now. We’ve got a new single called “Sticky Situation” that we’re releasing in a few months too — it’s a bop!
