The Snuts

The Snuts

The Snuts have made waves across the UK with their alternative rock sound. Since the release of a few demos in 2016, the Scotland-based group has grown to be synonymous with rousing, floor-stomping performances, selling out a myriad of venues in 2019. The group has over 22.4 million Spotify streams, not to mention coveted spots on several indie, alt, and rock Spotify-curated playlists. Songs like “Juan Belmonte” and “Maybe California” are just two fan favorites that have led to their quickly growing fanbase. And, with an upcoming headline tour in the works, things only seem to be looking up for the guys. We recently spoke with The Snuts about how they unwind, said upcoming tour, and more!

How did you get started making music?

Three of us grew up together, right from the age of 5. Then we met Jack at 11 - 12 years old - just as we were going into high school. We’ve known each other well over a decade now, so you could say we’ve been at it for quite a while. We loved indie guitar music and wore that shit on our sleeves when we were younger, but now we’re a few years older our sound is definitely maturing. We’re taking more risks with our music and sound, we would hate to stagnate.

What’s the story behind your name?

If I told you, then you’d know... and we can’t have that.

In your opinion, what’s a song’s key to success?

I suppose it really depends how you measure success. In my opinion as long as it connects with people and  really makes them feel something I think it’s a success. There’s a lot of elevator music out there right now — I think it’s important a song makes you stop and listen, it doesn’t just fade into the back ground.

You’ve never collaborated with anyone before. Who would be your dream collab?

We’ve done a few collabs with designers with our artwork, but I don’t know if we’re ready to cross that bridge musically just yet. We’ve still got so much of ourselves to offer first.

What can we catch you guys doing in your free time?

We practice a lot, write music, we used to party quite a lot but we’re tryna stop that as much. It’s just insane to call this work now — music was always what we filled our spare time with - but now we just fill all our time with it.

You’ve got an upcoming tour: What aspects of it are you most looking forward to?

Well the unique thing about this tour is, it’s entirely socially distanced. Set up like an old school drive in movie, it’s a first of its kind.. as far as I’m aware in the UK anyway. Obviously the global pandemic has took a massive effect on live music and how we consume it, so we had to think of creative ways to still bring live music to people - while our fans can remain safe. We’re just looking forward to getting back out on the road and playing some genuine live music for people. Live streams have went on too long so we hope to break the mould with this.

Besides the tour, what other future projects can fans keep an eye out for?

There’s talk of an album on the horizon, so stay tuned. As soon as we can get back to the states - we’ll be there. There’s a certain love for rock and roll in America that’s infectious, and there’s so many venues that are on the bucket list. So I’m sure we’ll see you guys soon.
