Brooklyn’s Vonrich raps with authenticity; powerful lyricism paired with catchy hip-hop/trap beats are what define his sound. The stage name stands for “Very Optimistic Now Realistic In Changing History”, an acronym that is accurate given his music journey. He began making songs in the 8th grade, but only took music seriously in his college years. Fast forward to 2020, and the artist appears to be the next one up. His songs “Paid” and “Make It” are his most popular, together grossing over 100 thousand Spotify listens. It is without doubt that his passion and effort towards music will help him to continue this stream of success. We recently spoke to the up and coming artist about his dream collab, musical origins, and more!

How did you start making music?

I started making music around the 8th grade. I didn’t take it seriously, as in studying my craft and the history of everything, till I left college at Penn State Hazy. I sharpened my performances/recording ethics in my early days with Scholarich Music Group, founded by my cousin Moosiewins. Shoutout to him!

How do you pass time out of the studio?

Outside of the studio, I’m usually at work during the week. I do security at a shelter Monday thru Friday. When it ain’t busy, I get to cook up classics in the office, beat on blast. Weekends I may work out or hop online and play Xbox. Can’t go wrong with some NBA2K, Call of Duty or Apex Legends. Been retired Fortnite lol.

What’s the perfect occasion for your music?

I’d say everyday activities are the perfect occasions for my music. Always talking about something constructive, whether it’s building as a team, applying knowledge, setting/reaching personal goals etc. I do it in a fly manner though, no cap. Gotta combine it with a flow so it ain’t boring or sounding out dated. Important to remain relevant through trends.

What was the last song you listened to?

Last song I listened to was “Heartbeat” by Taana Gardner. Can’t go wrong with the oldies. Love that era. From the melodies, to the lyrics, to the instruments.

What’s the first thing you do when it’s time to make music?

When it’s time to make music first thing i do is find a beat, buy it, print out the lease agreement, file it, then write to it unless I got verses that fit perfectly already. There was one time YouTube said I didn’t own the rights to a song I uploaded and muted my track. Theu did that because someone took my beat, to an original I did and beat me to the punch uploading it on major platforms. I said “O, helllll nah!” Emailed Youtube my proof of claim and the ban was lifted. But long story short, from there on out I knew I had to make sure everything business wise was taken care of appropriately. Especially before distributing on major platforms.

It’s collab time: who are you choosing to make a song with?

Good question. Collab time, I’m a fan of the culture and everyone’s success in general because it takes a lot to get in the door and stay afloat. I take my hat off to them. I could work with anyone willing and able to stick to a concept and deliver. As long as their character is solid and stands for something positive, in general, we are good. I’d say Jay-Z, Nas, 50 Cent, D-Block, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole & Drake for starters.

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

I have a lot of material ready to go, just gotta package it right and let it fly. I’m one track away from completing my next release which is another 7-track EP titled “Blessing In Disguise”. Got some production on there from big names such as LowKeyX and CashMoneyAP. Definitely gonna keep y'all posted!
