Maasho’s ‘SAD MACHINE’ literally has a life of its own. The 19-year-old recently dropped the music video to his latest pop-rock number, showcasing visually stunning cinematography and distinct comedic quirks. It’s an emotional trip, for sure, as he leads the audience through feelings of loneliness, frustration, and complete desolation. Well, not complete, actually. Maasho is accompanied by one person and one person only: the sad machine.

It’s a human/robot situation (I don’t even know, to be honest) that he spends the majority of the video trying to escape from. The sad machine follows Maasho everywhere: around his house, to the park, through the woods, and even checks him out at the corner store. It’s this degree of randomness that fits in so well with the song’s lyrical implications, as they speak to both the party animal and the introvert.

Credit should be given where credit is due; Maasho’s acting chops are alarmingly good in this. And considering it’s only the artist’s first music video, “SAD MACHINE” sets a bar high for future projects. In regards to the track itself, it’s fantastic. I’ll always commend a musician for their musical versatility, and in Maasho’s case, his newest sound seems as natural as ever. The heart-thumbing element of the song is driven by that infectious bassline, giving “SAD MACHINE” the means to be a real party anthem. Impressive. 8.7/10
