Madeline The Person
“As A Child”
WIMITLA SONG REVIEW
By Kenneth Tse
Why are there so many songs about rainbows, and what’s on the other side? Or should one ask: Who’s on the other side? The answer is 19-year-old Madeline The Person. The recent Warner Music signee brings a world of stunning vocals, introspective lyricism, and wondrous aesthetic to the music industry. As the magazine prides itself in covering both artists and TikTokers, I am ALWAYS enthused when “viral talent” gets the recognition that they deserve. Madeline is of a different tier, though – I am absolutely blown away by her debut song and video.
Think Frances Forever, Bon Iver, and an episode of Blues Clues mixed into one. These components might sound egregiously different but meld together in a truly blissful way. Her layered vocals paired with a roaming drum beat deliver both tranquility and a distinct sadness. It’s the irony of that childhood playroom setting that has struck me the greatest here – it’s dangerously unique and in the best way possible. Madeline’s lyrical soundness is superb, too, indistinguishable from any of today’s critically acclaimed pop acts. Most importantly, “As A Child” delivers a lovely tribute to her late father.
Artists like her are a diamond in the rough in an often saturated TikTok and music space. Her nearly 300k social media followers and recent record deal are all the affirmation needed. Madeline The Person is Gen Z’s up next. 8.8/10
