NTMC
“My Phone Knows”
WIMITLA. SONG REVIEW
By Kenneth Tse
I’m going to be super honest; even with the success of “Murder Party” and the rest of their explosive, genre-bending numbers, I am always shocked when NTMC manages to outdo themselves again. “My Phone Knows” is no different – they take a more poppy approach here, which isn’t a negative by any means. It only proves the versatility of a group that hasn’t shown any limit to their sound as of yet.
Two things that I have always found dangerously unique when it comes to the Characters are this: one, incredibly crafty lyricism, and two, a killer production style. Their latest single hits both avenues in stride – I’ll even declare them the voice of the Gen-Z populous, with references to our unhealthy reliance on WebMD and the FBI agent who monitors our cell phones. Each member of the group absolutely kills their verses here. With that said, we must always remember to include Nathaniel Clay in this praise, whose production in NTMC’s earlier hits made me an instant fan. In this way, they are incredibly singular – so much so that when people ask me the describe their sound, I always fail to give a proper answer. It’s not a bold prediction by any means. NOT THE MAIN CHARACTERS are destined to be a household name. 8.4/10
