Gabi Lewitton
Gabi Lewitton— a viral star who’s ambition and knack for dancing has transferred incredibly well into the TikTok space. She began on the app like many others, just having fun with her friends. When her video featuring the “Spooky Skeletons” trend reached over 25 million views, however, it sparked what would become a thriving social media career; the teenager has since accumulated over 4.1 million followers during her time and over 114 million likes. Crediting her family and friends as a needed support system, she says that TikTok has allowed her to “connect with people all around the globe” and is content in “being able to support and inspire [her] followers to be their best selves.” We spoke to Gabi about her journey on the app, her favorite trends, and more!
Hey Gabi! Thank you for speaking with us today. Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get started making TikToks?
I started off making TikTok videos just for fun with my friends like everyone else. I’ve always been interested in dancing, so learning all the new dances was a big passion point of mine. Eventually, I started to realize my videos were getting a ton of likes and comments and that is when I started taking it a bit more seriously… but not too serious!
Next month marks the one year anniversary of your first video! What have the last 11 months been like for you?
Honestly, the world has been so crazy over the past year and so much has happened. I would say one thing I've enjoyed most is having more time to spend with my immediate family while we have been in quarantine like the rest of the world. It still doesn’t always feel real that I have such a large following but at the end of the day, I hope I’m able to inspire my fans to do what they love and to chase after their dreams.
4 million followers are no small number! What has been the best perk of your social media fame?
The best part has been able to connect with people all around the globe. I’ve never been out of the country so I’m really looking forward to visiting Los Angeles and meeting creators like myself.
Which is the one video that you credit for really starting your TikTok career?
There was one video I had that hit 25 million views— The Spooky Skeletons one. I was completely blown away by the number of views and likes that video received. That basically stemmed from my TikTok career and encouraged me to keep on making more videos.
Has your content changed over the past year? How so?
When I started off on TikTok, I never showed my face in any of my videos because I wasn’t comfortable doing so. As things have taken off, I’ve become more comfortable showing the real me and connecting with my followers all over the globe.
What are some things that you enjoy doing outside of social media? How have you integrated such interests into your own content?
Like I mentioned, I have always loved dancing with my friends and as a hobby. So, being able to explore that more on TikTok has been really fun. I explored singing a bit when I was younger, but feel I’ve lost my voice over time. I wouldn’t be opposed to exploring that further.
Which are some of your favorite TikTok trends out right now? Which is one that you would like to bring back?
X Spooky Scary Skeleton trend I'd love to bring back. Right now I like the B*** I’m a ghost trend.
Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?
I would have to say, my family. They’ve really supported me through all of this and I’m really appreciative they’ve trusted me to keep going at it and allow me the space to grow. I’d also love to thank all my fans, my Cocoflies, for being there since day one. Love you! xo
Lastly, what’s next for Gabi Lewitton?
A trip to Los Angeles. Continuing to grow my platform. And, most importantly, being able to support and inspire my followers to be their best selves.
