Tell us a little about yourself.
Hey! My name is Grant Schaffer, and I am a 19-year-old artist currently based in FL. Music has been an integral part of my life since around the age of three when I began classical violin training. I later picked up the guitar and began to sing as well as write my own songs. I am currently on a gap year from Wake Forest University focusing on writing and recording music.
How did you start making music?
I’ve always loved to play and write music for as long as I can remember. It just wasn’t until recently that I decided to record my compositions and build production around them.
Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you joined TikTok?
I saw an opportunity to reach people with my music when few people were utilizing the app for that purpose and I decided to seize it.
How has the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic affected you as a TikToker, artist, and in your personal life?
Quarantine led me to spend more time working on music and recording. I ended up actually bruising my vocal cords and in turn I had to halt my recording process. This left me with more time to focus on writing and growing my social platforms. On a personal level, the virus has decreased my amount of travel and of course social interaction.
Who were some of the artists that you looked up to growing up?
Growing up I was huge on John Mayer, Jack Johnson, BB King, The Eagles, SRV, Jimi Hendrix, and many others.
With such social media success, do you ever feel any pressure to make content?
The honest answer is, yes. Especially with TikTok there are algorithmic repercussions for decreased posting.
Who are you teaming up with in a dream TikTok collab?
I’d definitely team up with my guy Llusion. He is a dope producer and king of remixes as far as TikTok is concerned.
Describe your music in 3 words.
Upbeat, charismatic, melodic
What is your favorite song out right now?
At the current moment I’ve been keeping “Cancel Me” by Dominic Fike in heavy rotation.
Anything special planned for the future?
I’m planning the release for a small project after “Seeing Colors” that I’m very excited to share. Definitely my best work thus far.
