Jordan Smikle (@thevigorousvirgin) is everything that is right about TikTok. Since his start in March of 2019, the New Jersey native has become a mainstay for many users on the app. He credits the platform as a way for him to break out of his shell, allowing him to explore new and creative avenues. And, we’re very glad that he did. His unique and relatable content is currently enjoyed by over 760k followers, earning him over 35 million likes and a quickly growing fanbase. In one short year, the entertainer’s love of comedy and POVs has blossomed into a potential career in social media. We recently spoke to Jordan about what the app means to him, his dream TikTok collab, and more!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 17 years old, I live in New Jersey, I love fashion and shopping (you’ll probably find me at a mall twice a week), and I love to rock my 90’s hairstyle flattop!
Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you joined TikTok?
I really love this question because when I first joined TikTok I had no intention of posting content. I honestly just wanted to be a viewer until one day I decided to make a video. The feedback from the comments made me want to make more! I started as a comedy account but soon switched to POVs because of my love for them. It was the best decision ever!
What’s been the biggest perk of your TikTok career?
I’d have to say that the biggest perk of my TikTok career is making lots of new friends and interacting with fans! Making new friends allowed me to break out of a shy shell that I used to be in. Without TikTok, or me becoming a creator, I think I’d still be locked in that shell, so i’m very thankful. Interacting with fans is also another perk because it’s honestly the best thing to read their reactions when you respond to them! Reading their comments always tends to brighten my mood and make me feel ten times better. Once again, I’m just so thankful!
Do you feel any pressures or responsibilities with almost 700k fans looking up to you?
This is another great question! With 700k followers I do very much feel pressured. The reason for this is because I feel like I have to continue to push out content for people to like. Some days I may get stressed about posting, but I definitely push through it.
What have been some of your favorite TikTok trends to follow and why?
My favorite TikTok trend that I love to follow is POVs because it allows me to become a character. Being that I’ve been in musicals, I love playing parts and POVs have allowed me to do so!
Who’s with you from the app in a dream collab?
A dream collaboration I'd love to have is with @tyler.brash. Tyler is a POV creator that takes it to the next step by actually going out and making his POVs come to life! He’s amazing and I hope one day my dream collaboration comes true!
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was Billie Eilish’s new song “My Future”! Please make sure you stream a million times!
Would you ever consider a career in social media following your TikTok success? What's next for Jordan Smikle?
I would definitely love to consider a career in social media! What’s next for Jordan Smikle is that I hope to land an acting job that will start something great!
