Kadeem Hemmings
Ontario’s Kadeem Hemmings started out on TikTok like many of today’s viral stars: looking for something to do in the midst of the pandemic. This once pastime has now become a lot more for the influencer. Going by @kadeemh on TikTok, Hemmings has gained nearly 2 million followers and over 35 million likes. This incredible platform has grown significantly due to his eye-popping content, as he always stays up-to-date with the latest trends. His recent video dancing to the “Chika Dance” was incredibly popular and currently has over 18.3 million views alone. This is an experience that the TikToker calls “pretty unbelievable”, and he never “would’ve guessed [his account] would amount to so many followers in such a short time.” We recently spoke with the viral star about his favorite trends, the biggest perk of his TikTok success, and more!
Tell us a little about yourself. How did you get started making TikToks?
I’m from Mississauga, Ontario a city a little bit outside of Toronto. I played football for York university and I’m entering my final year for my undergraduate degree. I began making tik toks out of boredom from the quarantine.
In less than half a year, your account has soared to over 1.8 million TikTok followers. What has this journey been like for you?
The journey has been pretty unbelievable. I had a lot of big accounts and people DMing me about the videos and I never got would’ve guessed I would amount to so many follower in such a short time
What has been the biggest perk of your TikTok success?
The biggest perk is that it gives me the opportunity to show a side of myself that I don’t usually show people because of my shyness.
Which is one TikTok trend that you would bring back and why?
One trend I would bring back would be any TikToks with the the Cookiee Kawaii song vibe. Those videos always hyped me up.
How has the pandemic affected your ability to make content?
It’s made it a lot easier for us to make videos because we were laid off from work and we had a lot of free time to meet up and make them. But now it kinda restricts us from going out of the city and traveling to different places.
What inspires you to make content?
What inspires me is that I can have fun with Nathaniel and Nick and potentially make a living off of it.
Talk about one real-life experience that inspired a video.
A lot of the dances are inspired just from us hanging out and listening to music with each other. We dance a lot off camera and sometimes we try and carry that same energy on camera.
Who are you teaming up with for a dream TikTok collab?
A dream collab would probably be Calebrownn, Didi_cortes, sjbleau, ondreazlopez and I would also love to a video with Addison and Charli
What is your favorite type of content to make and why?
My usual dancing videos are my favourite to make. Just the process of taking a 5-8 minute of us dancing and making it into a 30-60 second compilation of the best parts puts a smile on my face.
What can we catch you doing on your day off?
On my day off you can catch me editing videos or playing PlayStation with Nick and Nathaniel.
What's next for Kadeem Hemmings?
Hopefully I can expand my following on other platforms like Instagram and YouTube and venture into other forms of content.
