The Lee Sisters

Lee Sisters

The Lee Sisters have become a powerhouse duo in the world of TikTok. Between the two of them, the social stars have a whopping 2.24 million followers on the app. Their POV’s and dance videos have given them a signature style and a massive platform to spread their positivity and talent. All of that has made the perfect scenario for them to branch out and express themselves through a new medium: music. Taking inspiration from artists like Post Malone and Juice WRLD, The Lee Sisters are joining forces to release their first single “Voicemail (faded)”. The song is emotional and alternative, allowing the duo to showcase their true musical talent. We recently spoke with the sisters about the inspiration for the new song, their musical influences, and more!

Tell us about the new song!

Gaonha: Our song is about overcoming a breakup and finding ways within yourself to be free from the hardships of it.

Maihua: Yeah, it’s about using what you have inside to heal and find your own path. Our MV is also going to touch base on some of the abusive ways relationships can turn.

G: We want people to know, they aren’t alone in their healing.

What was the inspiration behind it?

M: Mostly breakups but what it means to have to piece yourself together. To realize it’s possible to make it without the person who left.

G: Our mental struggles inspired the lyrics. We know what it means to fight for happiness. We want fans to know there are healthy ways to deal with pain.

M: We hope this song can help.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

M: Our song is raw and on the alternative side. We looked at Post Malone, Juice Wrld and of course Billie Eilish for most of our inspirations. The song isn’t normal for what’s out but I think that’s why it will stand out.

G: I am a K-pop fan so I also looked at (G)I-DLE and ChungHa to be inspired. Also Ariana because well… It’s Ariana.

What is the best part about collaborating, both on TikTok and music?

M: Meeting new people and seeing new perspectives. We have been instilled with so many negative things around the world and change comes from hearing from other voices.

G: Creating content with other artists is so fulfilling and just making new friends. Making art together with people you love, that’s really meaningful to me.

What are future plans in regards to music?

Gaonha: Our song Voicemail(faded) comes out August 1st and it’s going to be available where most music is streamed. It’s scary to think our work will be put out there, but we hope it leads to more collaborations. Get the Lee Sisters genre underway!

Maihua: Music is what makes our art possible on Tiktok, I want to contribute to that and allow others to use our music as an outlet. If Voicemail can do that for even one person. I can’t help but wanting to keep going.
