Ivytide

Ivytide

Nathan Gangé and Jamie Snytte met by chance one day at a recording studio in Montreal. Two years later they, along with their talented bassist Kyle Ruggiero, make up the indie pop trio Ivytide. The group is entirely self-made, doing everything from songwriting to production. A blend of indie and bedroom pop, Ivytide’s signature sound consists of complex and catchy melodies masterfully layered on top of ethereal yet rhythmic instrumentation. Songs like “Undone” and “Way of Loving” not only demonstrate this distinct sound, but showcase the wide range of styles the group can take on. This year in particular, the up and coming band is on a roll: They released their sophomore EP, “Pardon Our Distance,” in late June, and snagged a record deal with Higher Reign Music Group, a record label distributed by music giant Sony. We recently spoke with Ivytide their favorite songs of theirs, how they would describe their music, and more!

How did you start making music?

Our singer Nathan recorded two solo EPs at a studio where our guitarist/producer Jamie was working (Avbury studios in Montreal). On the second project, Jamie and Nathan started writing together and found they had some similar influences and great songwriting chemistry. After that project, they recruited Kyle (bass) and formed Ivytide.

What do you like to do when you’re not in the studio?

All three of us are pretty dedicated to the music thing, so aside from our jobs/school we mainly enjoy working on tunes as our passion project. We also all love hiking and being in nature!

Describe your music in just 3 words.

chill. introspective. prettyfuntolistentoyoushouldgiveitalisten.

It’s your day off. Where are you going and why?

When we all have time off together, we’re making music or planning for future releases. Or maybe going on a little hike or camping trip.

What is your favorite song from Pardon Our Distance?

Jamie: I love “Diving” because that one’s pretty personal to me, and I also just love the way it sounds.

Nathan: Favorite song for me is “Blurr” because it was written while I was taking a Sensations and Perception class at the time and going through differences in perception in my own personal relationships as well. Not to mention the beat is fire and I will never be able to fully understand how it was made.

Kyle: “Diving” because it makes me cry. And also because it has a big loud outro that sounds like a butterfly breaking out of a cocoon.

Who’s your partner in a dream collab?

Clairo (because Nathan has a giant crush on her) and Frank Ocean (because he's just most creative person out there).

Any future projects for fans to get excited about?

Yes! We have a new single dropping in September. <3
