Meredith! Thanks so much for speaking with us. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hi, thanks for having me! I’m a musician, producer and performer born in New York, currently living in Los Angeles. I got my start doing musical theatre as a little itty bitty, and ventured into other things throughout my career like animation voiceover, TV and film. I currently am focused on my music, which you can stream on whatever platform you use.
You are incredibly talented. When did you first discover your love for making music?
Wow, thanks so much!! I’ve been writing music since I was a kid. You know sappy love songs on notebook paper as a 9 year old. I started writing with other artists in high school and then it really took on its own life once I went to school for music production at ICON Collective in LA.
As a part of a growing dual artist/TikToker industry, has your social media career changed the way you make songs at all?
Well, the way I make music on TikTok is just for TikTok. Especially knowing that 99 percent of it is going to be heard through the cellphone speaker. It completely changed how I produced sonically – trying to get the best sound quality for a phone speaker. But the feedback I’ve gotten on the style of music I make on TikTok has definitely influenced the stuff I’m writing now.
You’re known for your incredible one-of-a-kind soundscapes – your most recent single literally samples a cat’s meow! At what point did you realize that this was a niche that you could build upon?
I’m just going where the demand is. People demanded I release full versions of these songs and so I give the people what they want!! Everything happened organically though. I was just entertaining myself and what came of that was this incredible growth and support from TikTok.
With a quickly growing following, do you feel any added pressure at all to make content?
For sure. And the comments on the content now have changed. I used to have a small audience of people I knew personally. Now I’m catering to strangers all over the world that are watching me like never before. I think what’s most important is to keep focused on what pleases me because that’s how I made the stuff that became so beloved anyway.
You played a major role in Disney/Lucasfilms’s Strange Magic. Have your experiences in voice acting helped you in your current content creation?
I hear voiceover dialogue like a song and I think that’s why I’ve had success in the voiceover world. There is a tone and frequency to voice work and I think most musically inclined people would do well with it.
What about writer's block? What are some of the ways that you get through the hump?
Giving myself a break or doing something silly like writing a joke song about writer’s block, that’s what I did in school. We had weekly songwriting assignments and some weeks I just couldn’t come up with anything substantial so I’d just write songs about nonsense which always entertained me at least.
Pick one artist and TikToker that you’d love to collaborate with.
Jhené Aiko. She’s is one of my favorite female musicians/writers.
And for TikTok?
Taco Bell no cap.
Which would you say was your most difficult sound to sample and why?
Oh wow what a fun question!!! Any sounds that have bad background noise take a long time to really sound good enough for a song. You’d be surprised how much work goes into cleaning up these audio files.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the music/social media space?
Be around animals!!!! Browse HomeGoods. Really if you can’t find me I’m probably there looking at everything. It’s my happy place.
Has there been a moment on this journey that still feels surreal to you?
The first time I had a video hit a million views felt really special. Especially for the music I’m creating. It’s nice to have people enjoy your work.
What is the most important piece of advice that you can give to an up-and-coming artist or entertainer?
Find what is most unique to you and PUT IT ON BLAST BABY. Don’t worry about being like anyone else. Just be you. Shine bright on all the most unique and honest parts of yourself and you can’t go wrong.
What’s next for you? Any exciting projects coming up?
Dropping the music video for “I Don’t Wanna Be Touched,” the video that got 20 million views on TT!
