Sabrina Lee

Singer/Songwriter Sabrina Lee has made certainly her mark on the Indie-Pop circuit. The 17-year-old Korean-American grew up with musical influences in her life, but only made her professional debut a year ago. Her 2019 single “Who Do I Love Now?” (feat. Amory Reel) put the artist on the map, earning her over 24 thousand Spotify streams. Since then, she’s since produced one more single — “Hurt,” her first solo endeavor, which debuted June 5th. Lee’s distinct LoFi sound has brought the teenager early success, earning her a spot on some of Spotify’s most popular playlists. And with almost 100k streams at such a young age, she has started a career that’s only bound to grow! We recently spoke with Sabrina about her music roots, dreams, and more!

How did you get started making music?

My dad used to be in a Christian band throughout high school and into college, so he always had a couple guitars, and mics laying around. One day I was in the storage closet, and I found his custom Gibson Les Paul electric guitar, and spent hours that same day teaching myself how to play. I've been in love with music ever since!

Which of your singles was your favorite to make?

I think it'd have to be my most recent single "Hurt". I got to work with a really talented producer who did some work for The Chainsmokers, and I also experimented with this one as well. I will never be sick of that insane vocoder synth (synthesizer) in the hook.

It’s collab time: Who are you choosing to make a song with?

Halsey for sure. She's the whole reason I started to take music seriously, and her album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, inspired me so much that I taught myself how to write, produce, and just work hard as hell on my art. Another one I'd love to work with is Post Malone. Halsey and Posty are probably my top 2 artists, and they collabed on a song called "Die For Me" so you can imagine I went pretty crazy when I first heard it. I have always been a fan of his music since he opened for Justin Bieber on tour, and I'm convinced he can't make a bad song!

Dream venue?

Madison Square Garden. I feel like MSG is just THE place to play, and once you've performed there, you've really made it. Another dream venue would be the Capital One Arena in D.C. It's my home arena, and it's where I go to see all of my favorite artists perform. It would definitely be crazy special if I played there.

Favorite non-music activities?

I actually play basketball haha. I've been playing since I was 11, and I've continued to play ever since. It makes me feel like a whole different person when I'm on the court, and I can't even express the feeling my teammates and I get when it's game day!

Who do you owe your biggest thanks to?

My mom! She is the most hardworking, wise, inspiring, and beautiful person I know inside and out. She always gives me the best advice whenever I have something on my mind, and always supports me in anything I want to pursue, especially music. My mom LOVES traveling. She has a list of places she wants to go visit but since it's crazy expensive, we haven't really gotten the time or opportunity to do that. So, I made a list on my phone of all the places she has dreamt of traveling, and I plan to take her to all of them!

Any future projects for fans to look forward to?

Well, I just put out a single recently, so nothing is scheduled yet, but I'm constantly making new music and I already started several new projects that I'm stoked for everyone to hear. The best part is that they’re all different! Stay tuned :)
