Chelsea Collins’

Latest Single “WISH U HELL” Drips With Musicality and Venom

By Eli Goodwin

The first bad break-up is perhaps one of the most infamous, not to mention infuriating, experiences young adults endure as a part of growing up. Personally, I’m coming off the cusp of my own, aided by college turning us long distance. Though it’s often difficult to grapple with the truckload of emotions that spontaneously appear, Collins manages to not only put our thoughts into words, but also has the courage to say what most of us don’t: Being on good terms isn’t a necessity, especially if you don’t find yourself respected in the relationship. She triumphantly points out all the ways in which her ex mistreated her, something they’ll come to regret with today’s release of the song.

Chelsea Collins’ lyrics are just the half of it, however. Her powerful poetry pairs perfectly with light yet edgy vocals and an effortlessly catchy chorus that I’ve found myself humming all day. The addition of a repeating series of two guitar strums makes listening to the song effortless, for the entirety of the production is sonically pleasing. The artisanal nature of the song is met with an equally creative music video slightly reminiscent of Euphoria (mainly just all the bikes in suburbia). The video serves as a further testament to the anger that comes with looking back and seeing all that was wrong with a relationship, free from love’s blinders. Between the stellar lyrics (the song’s standout characteristic), the production, and the entertaining music video, Collins gives us something to add to all of our current Spotify playlists, not to mention plenty to look forward to.
