Connie Chong
Massachusetts native Connie Chong is like any other teenager: she goes to high school, deals with tests and drama, and tends to her extracurriculars. Oh, and she’s also TikTok famous. That’s all normal, right? @chonniecong on TikTok, is a 17 year old Korean-American full of ambition: skating, cooking, and hanging out with friends, while posting videos of her dancing, discussing life’s issues, and messing around with her family. Some of her most popular TikToks include a spin on Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” and one rating her younger brother throughout the day (hilarious)! She currently boasts over 150k followers that have earned the rising star close to 5 million likes. We recently spoke with Connie about her experiences with TikTok, hopes for the future, and more!
Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you joined TikTok?
When I first joined TikTok, I wanted to become famous, but honestly I just did it for fun because I thought I would never make it big. I just posted dance videos and videos with my friends. I didn’t really care what people thought because I only got like 30 views for each video. And now, I get a couple thousand views per video, which is crazy to me.
What’s your favorite TikTok trend?
I don’t think I have a favorite TikTok trend, but one that I like is the Vogue trend. It’s interesting to see what myself and other people I know would look like on a famous magazine cover.
Can you describe your videos in 3 words?
My videos described in 3 words would be funny, vibey, and chill!
If you could work with any TikToker, who’s your pick?
If I could work with any TikToker, it would probably be @newt (Newton Nyugen) because I want to cook a meal with him and he seems like a genuinely kind and funny person. I’ve been following him for a while, probably before he even had a million followers. I just love his content and his positive energy.
Do you hope to branch out through your TikTok success?
I do hope to branch out through my TikTok success. I have a lot of different ideas for videos I want to try out and I may possibly create a YouTube channel as well. I want to spread good vibes to anyone I can.
Favorite non-social media activities?
My favorite non-social media activities are cooking and baking, skateboarding, and playing guitar.
