Canadian entertainer Neo Romasanta simply has one of the most devoted fan bases on TikTok. The 17-year-old first began uploading onto the app just to impress a girl; but only two short months and nearly 1.6 million social media followers later, Romasanta is looking to be the next one up! The TikToker uses his unique personality, relatability, and humor often in reference to his Filipino roots. Some of his most popular videos include him reacting to his comment section, having fun with family members, and reflecting on his cringey past experiences. Neo has also begun frequently uploading to his YouTube channel, which currently boasts over 17 thousand followers. We recently spoke to him about his experiences on the app, dream collabs, and more!
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am 17, and I’m Filipino, I live in Canada, and I love chicken. Chicken is like the heart and soul of my diet. I’m an extremely picky eater. My go to meal or I guess I should say my only meal would consist of chicken and fries. Also I love Minecraft.
Did you have any specific plans or ideas when you joined TikTok?
I joined tiktok to impress a girl, she made TikToks and I thought: “Hmm I could do better than her.” And apparently, I could hehe. But I’ve always wanted to just make random videos to maybe make at least one person giggle, maybe like a laugh. Something that’s positive at the least.
You’re at 1.3 million followers. Can you tell us about the day you hit 1 million?
The day I hit one million, I wasn’t very excited since I knew there was still more to be done. Other than a million, I never did anything noteworthy that could help other people or help my family. I was disappointed in myself because people around me thought it was cool and exciting-- I knew more needed to be done to justify one million. I can’t just have a million and not have done anything significant if that makes sense hehe. I didn’t feel like I deserved it.
What’s it like to have this massive platform at your disposal? Do you feel any pressure?
I feel like I need to do more, I don’t know if I’m relevant enough to make a difference or speak out on issues, but I try. I feel like there is pressure since kids would look up to me as an example. But then again, I have to be myself and I’ll always be myself since it’s worked thus far. I’m not going to totally change who I am just because some people want me to be portrayed a certain way.
What’s been your craziest experience since the start of yourTikTok fame?
I realized people actually watch me and my videos even if it’s a bad video lol. Like no matter what, I’m going to have someone comment or like and that’s crazy to me. I’ve never been totally social until I began to get a following on TikTok. It’s refreshing to know that some people support me.
If you could wake up to a duet from any TikToker, who would it be?
I love certain TikTokers for their personalities and characters; like, I can’t name anyone in specifics but Russian Princess would’ve been cool lol, like only OG tiktokers know her, she started the pretty brown eyes trend. But also anyone that was on TikTok around 2018 would be cool because they’re all OG’s. Maybe if Beyonce had TikTok-- Bro that’d be insane lol, imagine.
You’re only 17 and have accomplished what many fail to do. Do you have any idea what’s next?
I’m 17 and I haven’t done anything significant, I want to change that. I just don’t know how yet. I know it has to do with helping people in a way but I don’t know yet. I need to act fast though or else I’ll start to lose sight of what I need to do. Maybe I’ll start an organization, maybe I’ll become president of the Philippines lol, or maybe I’ll invent a perpetual motion machine. Possibilities are endless hehe. Or I’ll flop online and become a pharmacist.
